I have just been watching a bit of this, and doesn’t the computer graphics look very dated (yes I know this was made in the 80’s) our home computers are miles better these days and the aliens look like those in Space Precinct.

    Garrett,

I used to love this movie as a kid but haven't seen it for ages. I've noticed that all those movies have dated so badly though. I tried to watch Starman a few months ago when it was on TV and it was painful to watch. I think the only one from that "era" that still looks good is Enemy Mine :)

BTW, on a related note, I think the aliens in Taken look utter crap. Very cheap CGI. I wouldn't be surprised if they were paying some kid to knock up the aliens on a PC in his bedroom :p (and by "knock up", I don't mean "impregnate" :D)

Anyone remember 'Battle Beyond the Stars' from the eighties? Now that was dated when it was released? :D

So were 'Tron' and 'War Games'. By the time they brought those movies out, computers had already progressed :D

IIRC, The Last Starfighter was groundbreaking in its time for being the first big-screen application of CGI. By today's standards, all the CGI objects are far too angular and clean, but at the time, it was an achievement.

Yes it was an other retelling of the Seven Samurai, it even had Robert Vaughn reprising a similar character from the Magnificent Seven.

    Last Starfighter is awesome!!!!!!

Graphics look a little dated, but the movie is still pretty keen!

The Last Starfight is one of my childhood favourites and I thought it looked fantastic last night as well. There was a bit where Alex first gets in the Gunstar and flies towards the frontier, the ship flies from right to left across the screen, I couldn't believe how good the sfx looked!

Some look a little dated but its all part of the charm, Tron looks far more dated but its still fun.

Is there a crossover of one of the alien characters between Battle Beyond and the Last Starfighter ? - they looked very similar.

not sure but the creature design in Last Starfighter was fantastic, Commander Krill (with the orange eyepiece and red body armour) and the 'hammerhead' alien assasin were fantastic.

I saw this film at the cinema many years ago in 70mm six track Dolby Stereo - ahh, those were the days!
