The journey to becoming a ps3 fan

Hi, I will put my thoughts in this wonderful thread. On May 06 I bought an Xbox 360 with ghost recon 1 after a couple of days playing it, it began to freeze randomly.

A couple of months past and I bough the saints row game. After playing that for a while. Fast forward to around feb/march of 07 and the game just didn’t work anymore. As soon as i load the actual game, it froze after a minute of gameplay ALL the time.

Note that all the above are warning signs of things to come: read below.
After buying forza 2, as soon as i put it in my 360 BAM 3 rrod for the first time(note when i say first time). I sent it back to MS and it took then 5 yes 5 weeks to send it back to me. So now i have a refurb and after i applied the spring update BAM 3 rrod AGAIN! Now fast forward another 5-6 weeks i receive yet another refurb(around July the time now) and as soon, and i repeat as soon as i switch it on BAM again 3 rrod.

I send it back again, got a free game and a free controller for compensation and waited another 5-6 weeks. I got it back in time for a big party I was hosting in September. Guess what? It worked wonders. Would I say that two weeks later after receiving it? Nope 3 rrod again LOL. Another 4-5 weeks past and its now October and whoa they send me actually fixed the refurb they sent me in September so let’s fast forward to 2 weeks ago when gta just came out. Guess what lads. Another 3 rrod LOL.

Have you counted how many times it’s messed up? I lost count at this stage but I think it’s between 4 and 5 times.
That is why as soon as I went out shopping I bought a brand new ps3 with gta4 and I am now a happy camper. I really wasn’t planning too but I got one anyway and after 2 weeks of playing it, I ask myself this question “why didn’t I get this instead of a 360?”

Besides Xbox live, the ps3 imo is better than the 360. It is more reliable, ALOT quieter , free online play blue ray, upgradable hdd that doesn’t void warranty, folding at home and teh ability to install Linux in it plus lots of exclusive games coming out this year shuch has MGS4, little big planet, socom, etc

No1 in their right mind would blame me for ditching the 360 and this story I just told you could happen to you. You got maybe a 30% chance of this happening to you and that’s a big figure. Half of my friends have had their 360’s die at least once and if you check my gamertag on LIVE I have over 40 mates there.

Welcome to the dark side

Wow, you're quite unlucky aren't you. Although be aware there has been a number of people who's bluray drive has failed, but still it is definatly more reliable that the 360.

Totally Agree!!
I originally owned a premium edition 360, which was swapped out twice, followed by a Halo edition which failed, and i am now on my second Elite, thats not counting 4 wireless headsets. I have owned a Ps3 for 6 months, and it has been 100% reliable. The other great thing about the ps3 is the fact that you are not "Tied" to Sony peripherals. I am using a £20 o2 bluetooth headset, as opposed to the forty quid a pop Microsoft ones that i am forced to use on the 360. The ps3 is far more reliable, and as a media hub, cannot be beaten.

if any product i owned failed that many times i would demand every penny back, including all postal costs.

on a plus side, i had a faulty ethernet on my ps3, i called sony, they asked me the serial number on the sticker and my name and address. 2 days later they brought me a spanking new ps3 to my doorstep.
none of that 4 to 5 weeks of waiting for mail :smashin:

The biggest NO NO with the XBOX360 is the console itself.Poor design, rubbish build and unreliable which is a shame as there are some stunning games available for it as we all know. The failure rate is a joke the RROD just does not seem to be going away even after repair..Microsoft are laughing at us:thumbsdow

No offence mate, but you must've stored your 360 in an oven.
I've had mine for a good 4 months with no problems at all, and I've known people to have theirs for more with no problems.

Sure, it gets the RROD but PS3 has a host of its own problems as well, lets not forget.

That said though, they're both great consoles and enjoy your PS3!

I think, correct me if I am wrong that the failure rate is something like 1% on the Wii, 5% on the PS3 and 30% on the XBOX360

I don't know the exact rates, but back when I worked at Game we'd get a fair deal of PS3's back.

I'm not saying one console is better than the other or anything like that, so statistics of failure are meaningless.
I'm just saying that he had terrible luck with his 360 or he just stored it in a very bad place, which might lead to the same problems with his PS3.

i store my 360 in a wooden open desk. i tried both vertical and horizontal and i even tried using 3 stacks of empty cd cases to put a level on the bottom of it to raise it whilst horizontal. beleive me i have my 360 stored in one of the best possible positions you could imagine.

my room also is not even hot either. average at best. i have a ps2, dreamcast and a gamecube and none of them has failed even once in the same room and setup that im in now

the chips on the PS2/Gamecube/Dreamcast are nowhere near as powerful as 3ed generation machines (Well, PS3/360) - so don't expect them to overheat.

I don't want to sound rude or anything mate, but 5 times in such a short period of time is a sign of -you- doing something wrong rather than Microsoft.

Sure they have crappy customer service and it takes ages to sort things out - but the consoles they provide are the same with everyone... and seeing as plenty of people had good experience with the 360 (I haven't got my RROD yet, even though I'm aware it might happen) and others who never got them before... well, I'm pretty sure that other than the Falcon chips not much could be different between your console and the rest.

So really, 5 times in a row is either VERY VERY VERY bad luck or just you doing something wrong and blaming Microsoft.

One way or another, enjoy your PS3.

Sorry to butt in mate but ive got a friend who has gone through 6 360's since launch, all but one dying with RROD, and if you read through the forums here and on other sites you will find out that 4, 5, 6 replacements or more is not that rare. Im personally on my 3rd 360 since I bought a premium in Feb last year, luckily my local Gamestation are very understanding and have swapped mine over the counter and mine have been/are in a well ventilated stand and used maybe for 10-15 hours a week. Its common knowledge that the older 360's have been shoddily made and to have a 30%+ failure rate is disgraceful.

Welcome to the PS3 forum, while there are lots of great games on the 360 there are also lots of current and upcoming great games for the PS3, IMOH, as well as a good standard of ports at last. So you shouldn't be short of anything to play.

RE the 360 problem, part of the problem is if you get one failure then you are on a much higher percentage chance of getting further failures as you be returned either your console fixed or a re-furb and the repairs, by however MS gave the repair contract to, are decidedly dodgy at best.

I had my first 360 for a year before it 3RRoD then went through another 2 refrurbs in 3 months with 3RRoD, I'm now on my 4th refrub and it been ok for the last 6 months so I'm keeping my fingers crossed. Bright side is i got a free wireless headset in comp and 4 months Gold sub with the free cards inside each return.

wel said.i dont even use my 360 that much. maybe 6-7 hours a week as i am married and have other stuff to do.

it doesnt matter how advanced a peice of technology is, it needs to have a very low failure rate! dont forget, when dreamcast/ps2 first came out they was very powerful at its time.

so when the next gen consoles arrive and ms one failes again, you gunna make the excuse that its more powerful the the 360 so its acceptable for it to fail more then the 360?

i'l still use my 360 has i paid good money for it and just buy exclusive games for it like fable 2 and gow2. the rest im gunna game on the ps3 from now in regardless of when i get my 360 back

mate i know where you are coming from. i had 360 and all was good until
3RROD, took it back to hmv and got new one. had that one for about 2 months and started freezing, that was it - had enough of it. took it to game and exchanged it - paid difference between what i got for 360 and got new ps3. best move i have ever made :smashin: also dont get mrs complaining how 360 is as loud as our washing machine :D

Sigh, it's so typical that this thread is more of a 360 bashing thread than anything else.

P.S... Your gas bill went down eh? Put your PS3 on a plastic stand for 3 hours, running - It will melt stuck

:D sorry mate had to have a dig.
i'm not really into this 360 vs ps3 thing, actually prefer games on 360 but from the experince i've had with 360 i prefer ps3. not saying ps3 is perfect, just 2 weeks ago i hadgta4 corrupt my whole hard drive and had to format it so lost all my data. as you can imagine i was not happy :suicide:
if 360 price drops under £120 i will most probably get one again (not paying £200 for something that gives that many problems) but until then i will carry on loving my ps3 :smashin:

well i have save dthe reciept for the ps3 so if it messes up then im gunna simply return it like how you did with the 360

yeah when got my 360 from hmv did keep the reciept and when took it back no probs. second time just took it to game, they put it on in front of me it worked so they just gave me the money for machine, 2 controlers, charger and i thinki i had about 6 games. got £290 for all that and paid £30 to pay for difference so can get ps3. also got 3 year cover from game for ps3 for £24.

I love my PS3, play a lot of games on it and watch movies. I've even got a fully functioning QUICK YDL 6.0 install on it   (see PS3 Linux forum for how I "tweaked" it).

I like the controller, sixaxis and pretty much everything about it. A few niggles include having to download then install games (tedius on a relatively slow Broadband connection) and the fact that these downloads can only be performed when your sat in the XMB (i.e. not doing anything) but all in all it's pretty neat.

I also like my 360, the controller IMO is probably a bit easier to use (not better but fits my large hands easier hence IMO), graphics I have to say at the moment do have the edge from what I can tell - not by much, but the PS3 does drop the odd frame here and there compared with the Xbox (GTA IV is a classic example, and it's running in a higher resolution on the 360), it also seems to "smooth" things a little better, reducing jaggies but i'm sure over time the PS3 will come very close to equalling the 360 and also some of this could just be personal preference.

I've had my Xbox 360 since launch day in November 2005, it was originally a Core system (now a fully upgraded Premium), it's got all the updates on it and it works flawlessly. I've never had 1 single problem with it since I got it. I've kept it well ventilated at all times but that's all. I am however aware of others who have had problems (my 2 brothers and my dad all have 360's and out of them 2 have had the dreaded RROD).

My Dad has the latest HDMI 360 (different chipset - Falcon is it??) and he's had no problems. I've also not heard of any problems with the newer machines with the aforementioned chipset in them so it seems they have turned a corner finally.

Chris.
