    Be prepared to be surprised...

I had some free tickets to go to see this last night so went along expecting - well not alot really. It was actually a pretty good film....
No awards for acting or anything but a good film with some good chases and overall I've got to be honest I really enjoyed it. Absolutlely nothing to do with the original other than the mini's and the title. And at one point you see half of micheal cane's face on a plasma screen (someone watching the original).
but if you've got nothing much on then go and see it.

I thought it would be one to be seriously avoided but trust me it's good

I'd have to agree - saw this in the US back in June - was quite surprised - very enjoyable. Not a patch on the original - but a good movie nontheless..

just watched it today and its thoroughly enjoyable

some clever bits in there and the fastest 2 hours I've passed in the cinema in a long time!

now I'm motivated to watch the original and see what all the fuss was about the first time :)

The original's awful, and it's in Mono

And I never regarded Michael Caine as 'Swuave' or Cool, maybe 20-30 years ago, but today he's just an idiot - or at least to my generation :D

My copy is in 5.1- doesn't seem to be state of the art but it certainly isn't mono!

    Hi,

I have to agree that the 2003 version is actually a good film, providing you don't mind it having almost no relation to the original Michael Caine classic. The Mini-Chase, during the final 20 minutes, is amazing, as is the opening speedboat sequence. I certainly want to get this on DVD at some point in the future.

    Didn't quite have digital sound 40 years ago...sorry. :D
As tons of fun says, the DVD is in 5.1 but it's a good job of poor original material...nothing special.

The picture quality of the DVD of the original film is dead impressive, even if the sound is a little flat.

I really enjoy the original every time I see it. I wouldn't mind seeing the new one, but I don't want to give money to studios that remake films that don't need reworking.

Write your own scripts! It can't be that hard.

The italian job is timeless. Mr mrs watched it last week for the first time, so no nostalgia , and she loved it.

I think caine is one of the uk finest actors. Not at lot of people know that;)

Ultimately, the original has a Lamborghini Miura S being given some stick on God's own road (OK so it doesn't end happily for the Lambo but I'll bet that guy was enjoying himself up to that point). As the second most jaw dropping 60's supercar (behind the GT40) this alone makes it better than the new one. Although Ms Theron is a better looking lady than whoever played Lorna in the original.
