I´ve had the "the Italian Job" on my "my wanted list" at Choices direct for some time now.

The other day I noticed that the title is withdrawn, could anyone here please tell me why?

Is there a new release coming?

I dont really see why that would make any difference, Both versions of Get carter for example are still available.

I "heard" the original film didn`t have a proper license to be released here on dvd in the first place, and that was why it got withdrawn quickly.
Sorry, cant find where I read it.:(

In fact they some times bring out the original version of a film on DVD to ride on the publicity of the re-make. But I suppose if it was the same film company they would hold back till after the remake has done the rounds.

I bought the Italian Job DVD: if you can, track down a copy! THe picture quality is fabulous (although the sound is only average).

The cinematography is amazing, too: I hadn't realised how spectacular the film looked, as I'd only seen it before in 4:3.

I'd heard that the UK arm of the studio jumped the gun. The intent was to release the old version at the same time the new version hit the cinema (or thereabouts) so it could ride on its coat tails.

The US were very unhappy that the disc came out and made them withdraw. Some high ranking guy in the UK supposedly lost his job over it.

Can still be found cheap in Blockbusters, the one by me has it for about £6.99 brand new.
