Buying a new car soon and trying to research whether a dealer servicing package would be cheaper than a manufacturer's one.
So call my local dealer and they give me the number of EMAC. I call them and speak to a young sounding woman and it goes like this
Me: Could you tell me the cost of a 3 year plan for Nissan Leaf Tekna
EMAC : What is the registration
Me: Don't have it yet
EMAC: We need the registration to give you a quote
Me: Oh I see, mileage and age sort of thing, no this would be brand new, just delivery miles
EMAC: We still need the registration, the price depends on the registration
Me: Why, so if the dealer has two brand new cars on the forecourt, both identical but obviously with different registration numbers then the cost of the service plan for each would be different
EMAC: Yes that's correct they would have different prices because they have different registration numbers
Me (resigned to giving up but deciding to be a bit cheeky) : When you buy a new car you are often given a choice of registration numbers. Which one should I pick to get the cheapest service plan
EMAC: I'm not sure, I could ask someone and ring you back
Me (feeling sorry for her now) : No never mind, I'll take the risk, just hope I don't pick a bad registration number
EMAC: Yes me too, good luck
Cheers,
Nigel
