The irrational and not-so-irrational annoyances thread

Agreed. We have a couple of 'Dog Poo Christmas Trees' in our village. Dirty gits!

We also have a 'Bubblegum Tree' which - while disgusting - is pretty impressive.

There was a 'Trainer Tree' at one point as well :)

What's worse than that to me is owners who clean it up by putting it in a bag and then hanging it on a tree or tossing it on the ground...this is actually worse as the bags don't degrade...whereas the original mess would....that takes a special kind of moron in my eyes

Indeed, it perplexes me why a. People think it’s ok to not clean up after their dogs and b. Why they think it’s also ok to bag it and leave it lying around.

We live beside the coast and it’s a real problem where people bag the poo and then leave it lying on the beach! I mean, WTF!!!

Tory MP Charlie Elphicke is convicted of 3 counts of sexual assault and the various papers are referring to him as a 'Naughty Tory'.

He sexually assaulted women, he didn't nick some stationary FGS

Edit: I know he's got this nickname because of something he said whilst chasing a woman around the office, but it's still not a Benny Hill sketch the papers are reporting on is it?

We have a soap dispenser on the window sill. When the sun comes out it gets warm and when you pump it it feels like you're getting a palm full of fresh Harry.

Turns my stomach every time I use it.

Saw this in Seattle. 30m of wall like it. While being manky it was kind of impressive. Sort of.

The utter bastards that are Adobe. OK my software is pretty old, but it cost around £500. They decommissioned their activation servers so the software is now dead. Nothing I can do about it. Nothing they will do about it. They just want me to buy the new creative cloud solution for £240 per year. Bastards.

can you not block the server access in your hosts file so it can't call home to disable each time you run it?

Depends if it's calling to check it's disabled or calling to check it's enabled.

Buying a new car soon and trying to research whether a dealer servicing package would be cheaper than a manufacturer's one.

So call my local dealer and they give me the number of EMAC. I call them and speak to a young sounding woman and it goes like this

Me: Could you tell me the cost of a 3 year plan for Nissan Leaf Tekna
EMAC : What is the registration
Me: Don't have it yet
EMAC: We need the registration to give you a quote
Me: Oh I see, mileage and age sort of thing, no this would be brand new, just delivery miles
EMAC: We still need the registration, the price depends on the registration
Me: Why, so if the dealer has two brand new cars on the forecourt, both identical but obviously with different registration numbers then the cost of the service plan for each would be different
EMAC: Yes that's correct they would have different prices because they have different registration numbers
Me (resigned to giving up but deciding to be a bit cheeky) : When you buy a new car you are often given a choice of registration numbers. Which one should I pick to get the cheapest service plan
EMAC: I'm not sure, I could ask someone and ring you back
Me (feeling sorry for her now) : No never mind, I'll take the risk, just hope I don't pick a bad registration number
EMAC: Yes me too, good luck

Cheers,

Nigel

Brilliant.
Sounds like she has often been sent out for a long wait or some tartan paint

Hmm good point.

It’s on a 30 day countdown to activate on a server that no longer exists. Which way around does the host file work? Checking it’s enabled?

It's not about the file but rather the application. If it checks every now and again whether it is disabled, then blocking that access via the hosts file or some other mechanism (pulling out the network cable) might keep it running. However if it needs to check in with base every time it starts, then presumably this activity would stop it starting anyway.

I don't know much about Adobe license validation mind.

Suck it and see I reckon. Whether it's a block by the host file or a dead server endpoint, the result will be the same. And these companies wonder why piracy happens..

At times like this i’d go online and find a keygen.

Block your hosts file and keygen the crap out of that. I fully expect you to never feel guilty.

So the keygen would just keep giving me 30 days? I’ll go down the host file route and see if that helps.

Having a trolley with two wonky wheels.

No, the crack/keygen will permanently solve your issue. Normally this is obviously very illegal, but given you've purchased software, and I assume it doesn't have a clause in the EULA that says you have to pay again when they turn off servers, I think you would be forgiven in this instance.

Apparently I'm confrontational, according to a chavvy wifey at the beach.

All because I didnt like that her 2 year old had rummaged through our stuff when I'd taken our boy into the sea, and taken a bunch of toys to play with. I wasn't even confrontational... after 5 mins of trying to spot his parent I gave up and took the toys away from him (nicely). After another 5 mins of him having a tantrum someone finally came over having a go at me. Apparently I should have been grateful that he hadn't taken them properly ...

On the plus side, you didn’t have a Jack Russell cock his leg and take a piss in your bag, which is exactly what our dog did to some poor lady sat on a bench at a country park when I was a child :rotfl:
