This is one of my favourite Hulk movies. I like the undertones of domestic violence which is cleverly suggested but not overt and the clear father son relationship issues....However I never really get the Hulk as a standalone film material it think the Hulk works better as part of something else... so you can use that character in different ways, rather than the trying to resolve the very limited scope of the character.... Not Hulk = intelligent and Insightful... Hulk = Smash :)

I always thought this was the best entry in Phase 1. It was vastly underrated, as I feel Ang Lee's Hulk was too. It was a great chase movie and I left the cinema being completely satisfied that expectations were met. I think this is in part due to lowered expectations going into the cinema though as much as it just being a greatly entertaining movie.

While Ruffalo being cast was a great move (I'd long been a Ruffalo fan before this) I do think that as part of the MCU, if the actor has been changed, then the Hulk should have at least remained looking the same for continuity. Changing him simply reinforces that this film is the "forgotten" MCU entry and made The Avengers feel like the third reboot of the character instead.

      I’d agree with this.

This is probably the most underrated marvel film made to date. My daughter (now 11) still loves it.

Many thanks for the review Cas.

Glad to see there is love for this one, I Have always liked it!

And Norton has been a firm favorite of mine since the excellent Primal Fear :)

Will probably add this to my 4K Digital Library when available.

I really like this film,I'm a massive marvel fan and I think the only thing that lets it down is the design of the Hulk himself, looks too cartoonish and the CGI these days on this budget is capable of much more.

The soundtrack is so bloody good and a great film too when compared to Marvel's gutter films (IM2/3, CA, Thor 2 etc;)

I loved this movie and prefer it to many Marvel/Disney films.

I was going to wait until this was in the 2 for £30 deal but I don't think I can hold out.

Hoping Universal didn't skimp on the video bit rate on the UHD. The Blu-ray video has an AVBR of 17 Mbps which is a tad low for an action film.

Always good to see the phase 1 movies getting some 4k love. It was a great film and as previous have said, massively underrated. It's a shame Ed Norton never got into the Avengers but Mark Ruffalo is brilliant. Seem to be conflicting reports on why talks broke down.

I'm not being contrary when I say the Angle Lee movie is much more exciting than this one.

The lead up story in this one is more interesting, but the action, the nitty gritty of hulk, and his awesome power and indestructibility is much more awesome in the ang Lee film.

And the ed Norton factor for me is diminiadim for .w when you realise how good the Aussie fella actually is as an actor.

Softer than the Nolan 4k discs?
With the filtering and DNR in places?
Any more softer and it would be like viewing through a plastic bag

I agree with others it's a worthy entry of the MCU. The reason I think it is almost forgotten is studio politics and post-cinema release marketing. Firstly the rights-issue with Universal that is still a thing today. I'm extrapolating that this means TPTB at Marvel/Disney want to ignore it, as any referencing drives Universal's coffers as much as their own. Also as such an early entry it had a lower budget, and more voices, including Norton who was clearly an uncredited creative force, and a somewhat passion project. Rumours are he took over the editing of the movie amongst quite a lot of head-butting, also rumoured to have heavily script-doctored during filming, which must have been a contractual right he has, because it's not normal otherwise.

In terms of being replaced, he clearly didn't have a contract to appear on The Avengers franchise, because Universal have rights for Hulk movies. Talks definitely took place, but something major must have happened because he was swiftly replaced and Feige released an extraordinary statement, praising Ruffalo on creative collaboration and team-playing, which clearly was a very public dig or rebuke for Norton. Norton simply took the high-road and released his own statement wishing them the best.

Don't forget Feige seemingly dumped Terrence Howard from the Iron Man franchise, for allegedly similar 'personality' based reasons.

Whether this means Feige did not want to continue to cede too much creative control to Actors, or just clashed, or wanted to maintain the studio and film-makers as more or equal to star-power, who knows?

Ultimately, it seems the current group of actors are 'sold' on the current Studio methods and where they stand on the pedestals.

Well that was pretty epic. Not too many DTS:X mixes about compared to Atmos but this one certainly gives Dolby a run for their money. Actually enjoyed it more on a re-watch then the first time around.

Perhaps you misunderstood. I was saying it was *slightly* softer than we have come to expect from modern UHDs, just like Batman Begins is softer than we’ve come to expect.

I already have JL on blu so I'd have considered Batman Vs Supermsn as my companion title with The Hulk. The trouble is that it appears to only have the extended version in 4K. I'd quite like to see the theatrical version but that appears to be only on the standard blu.

      I'm the opposite.
I have BvS on 3D Blu and 4K.
Once you've seen the extended version of BvS you won't watch the theatrical version again.
It just makes so much more sense and a better story.
I have the hulk on blu in two steelbook formats but the sound of the sonic cannons in DTS:X is luring me.

I bought the 4k version of BvS for when I got a 4k player but when I found the extended version not on the Bly that came with it borrowed my mates non 4k pack disk blu ray to see the extended. As you say a lot better, bit like Daredevil.

I haven't got a 4K TV but the picture is so much better on my 1080p TV than my Blu-ray.
Must be the higher bitrate or something.
Hurry up and get a 4K player I say.

I watched my Blu-ray on Wednesday and then my 4K last night.

The sound difference was night and day.
      Really demo stuff.

I love this movie. Possibly one of my favourite superhero movies ever.

Got a copy. I think the dts-x soundmix is the best so far of my dts-x titles. The HDR kicks in great to in the fight scene in the city. I think this movie is really underrated.

Thought the PQ was slightly sharper with more contrast and way too deep blacks crushing a wee bit of Shadows The high bit rate encoding certainly helps but I can see it drop to 10 Mbps in some scenes with not much of things happening around.

Sound - Don't have overhead speakers but thought this was a bit better than the DTS-HD MA as digs a little bit deeper although I had to bump the overall volume by few notches for more oomph.
