I thank you for this information purely for the fact I now know the release date for it.
Standard release for me with this.

Is this an HMV exclusive, or are they just the first to announce it?

Happy to order it from HMV online, but would prefer not to have to make 20+ mile round trip just to pre-order it in store.

I think it might be as they got the exclusive for the standard steelbook. Hoping for a Jumbo too just so it matches the previous parts.

    The titel
It specifies Extended Edition and the other 2 Extended Editions were Jumbo. So i would bet both my nuts that this is the Extended Edition Hence what the title says my friend

The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies (Extended Edition) (Blu-ray Steelbook)

My post was in reply to the question of whether this EE was an HMV exclusive; hence the reference to the standard edition which was. Please read the full thread my friend ;-)

It will mostly likely be a jumbo. But there has been talk recently (in the Game of Thrones thread) about a new 5/6 disc slim steelbook.

    Will get this.

Now if only they would hurry up and release jumbos of the 2nd and 3rd LOTR Extended editions to go with the first.

However I suspect Fellowship didn't sell so well, otherwise we would have had them already.

It is a bummer i know as i think most sites have it still listed as around £12-£14. Im in the same boat i want the other two to complete my Jumbo's personally i thought Fellowship was on par with Two Towers. It would be a shame if they left it at just the first one as i would have to sell my Jumbo.

I'll have to get this to complete the collection although the theatrical version of this was pretty long without being extended!!

As with first 2 as i dont do jumbo steelbooks, it will be the lovely 3d extended amaray with lenticular. Then i can finally watch the trilogy for the first time :)

Amazon currently has two versions of this up for pre-order but there is no artwork. The descriptions are identical, save for the prices (£34.13 and £37.36). It's possible that the more expensive of the two is the steelbook edition but the price should drop before release.

Thankfully, my son has never expressed an interest in the extended versions of any of The Hobbit films (and I certainly have no desire to watch various additional scenes of Bilbo buying fish and what-not).

There is probably only an extra 5 minutes of fish buying/selling. Plus another 5 minutes of dwarves singing a fishing song. ;)

Yes, and five minutes is an absolute eternity in film.

I hope Jackson comes to his senses one day and realises that films have to really merit a running order of over two hours. It's like those early Yes albums were every song ran to at least twenty minutes despite only one of the songs being truly deserving of the running time.

I think he has overstretched things a little with The Hobbit. Especially when compared with LOTR which has much more source material. Hobbit should have been two films at most, whilst LOTR could have easily been five.

I will still be buying this steelbook though.

So is this a HMV exclusive or are others going to get this like Amazon?

It looks like it's an HMV exclusive; there are place-holder listings on Amazon, but there is little detail and no mention if they are for Steelbook editions or not. After their recent price reduction, HMV is currently cheaper than Amazon.
