Just heard that they are going to be remaking this absolute classic. Dont really have much info what so ever but did hear that the hitcher who was played perfectly by Rutger Hauer may well be now played by a women????????????? why can they not leave films alone? It was bad enough to hear they are remaking The Warriors but now this.

If you think the idea of remaking "The Hitcher" is bad enough, you want to check out the sequel to the original - it's complete pants! :thumbsdow

I think that, done properly, The Warriors could benefit from an update, but The Hitcher? Absolutely not!

i bought the hitcher on dvd a few months ago but haven't got around to watching it or even taking it out of the shrink wrap yet. I think the industry is beginning to remake too many films now, i can understand remaking golden oldies like gone in 60 seconds, the italian job etc because the younger generation (myself included) are quite often turned off by the thought of watching a 60's movie, but now they're beginning to hit movies from the 70's and 80's. with this and The Evil Dead (How can you remake The Evil Dead?????) How long before we get a remake of Alien and Terminator? God forbid..

I've just had a look on www.upcominghorrormovies.com and there are a LOT of remakes in the works. I've not listed them all here because i haven't heard of a lot of them, and quite a few are Japanese > English remakes but look at this for a list of movies that don't need or deserve remakes, but are receiving one nonetheless.

    The Blob
    The Entity
    The Evil Dead
    The Fly
    The Fog
    The Hills Have Eyes
    Invasion of the Body Snatchers
    Pet Sematary
    Scanners
    Suspiria
    The Wicker Man
