I have just purchased 2 films from PlayUSA, Final Destination 2 and The Haunting, both films are in DTS-ES. However when I play The Haunting and select the DTS-ES language from the menu my amp/receiver (Pioneer VSX D1011) only shows up DTS. There can't be anything wrong with my amp/receiver becasue if I play Final Destination 2 or any other DTS-ES films they all show up on the display as DTS-ES 6.1 DISC/MATRIX.
Could the film be the wrong pressing even though the actual disc shows the DTS-ES logo?

Are you getting anything out of the surround back speakers at all? Doublecheck that the amp is set to use ES processing.

It always used to light up the Surround Back flag on my Denon 3801 - bloody good soundtrack too :)

Its definately a flagged DTS-ES Discrete title.

It could be that your amp is not reading the flag on the disc, try selecting DTS-ES manually on your amp.

I can't hear anything through the surround back speakers, I know I should read the instructions but is it possible to set a Pioneer D1011 amp to DTS-ES manually?

You should have the facility to switch ON/OFF the surround back speakers manually, either via the remote, OSD or the front panel. If the amp has the option of AUTO FLAG DETECT for EX/ES dvd's it's best to switch it OFF and just switch the EX/ES processing on manually (usually just switching the surround backs on does this).
