Whilst in the pub the other my mates and me were discussing, some what heatedly as what the best Megadrive games were the list we have come up with in no particular order is.

    Desert Strike
John Madden - Game that saved the Megadrive in my opinion
    Sonic
    Road Rash
    Tom Jam and Earl
Pete Sampras tennis - Use of a J-Cart
    Mirco Machines

Just wondered what others views are

    Streets of Rage
    Mercs
    Zany Golf
    Altered Beast

But undoubtedly the greatest Megadrive game of them all was:

    Revenge of Shinobi

Altered Beast has to be one of the worst games ever.

I loved streets of rage but one of my mates hated

Virtura Racer remember that, I paid £75 for that

Desert Strike was ace, really good.
Shining Force was also a kick ass game (sequel to shining in the darkness)
Hellfire was also a top shooter

Altered Beast was great:D One of the first MD games I ever played I think.

    The usual suspects:

    Sonic
    Road Rash
    Streets Of Rage
    Street Fighter
    Shinobi

    Don't forget:

    Golden Axe
    Columns

    And...
Quackshot (hey, I liked it! )

Have you ever player Altered Beast??? I re-discovered this "gem" not so long ago, I can't explain how crap it was and still is!!

I agree on Golden Axe, I remember our chippie having it and spending £10 in one session.

Yeah I remember Altered Beast and for pure nostalgia alone, I rate it as a classic :D

If I played it again today I would probably cry but I loved the game when I was younger.

I remember my parents bought me a MD for Christmas with about 10 games (2nd hand from a neighbour), and AB was probably the one I played the most that Christmas.

happy, quackshot provided hours of entertainment. The plungers made for ace gameplay and the levels were well designed, not too hard and the story was good too. I loved it:smashin:

    Oops sorry

The rumour was that they were releasing an update of Altered Beast. Not Quackshot as I may have made it seem.

Just reread the post and I was erm ambiguous

This is a great retro site. Master System, NES, SNES, Megadrive emulators, loads of games (pretty much every one I can remember).

Have recently enjoyed playing Another World and Flashback

    I loved Quackshot too!

My favourite other Megadrive games were:

    NHL Hockey 93
    Streets Of Rage
    Sonic 2
    Landstalker
    Soleil

I'll probably remember some others but i do know that Landstalker is in my top 3 games of all time with Chrono Trigger and Zelda 64.

Toejam and Earl was THE BEST! Heehee, it's gotta be the best two-player game ever... Sooo much fun, sooo much frustration, sooo much funk - what a game! :D

Also, a couple more obscure RPG/strategy types I remember very fondly: Warsong, Buck Rogers in the XXIVth Century (seriously! great sci-fi RPG), and... oh bu***r I can't think of the name of it... Another great RPG, but fantasy this time. Involved magic rings... Argh! Will have to Google for it.

[Edit: Found it! Rings of Power - great stuff, though very obscure Naughty Dog (Crash Bandicoot) old-school RPG.]

    Cheers,

    Dunc

Altered Beast is certainly getting a 3D update but I'm with the peeps who thought it was a poor game. Sorry! ^_^ Didn't like the game although I do agree that Gunstar Heroes is worth getting a Megadrive for. Also worthy of note IMO was Contra IV and Dynamite Heddy.

Anyone remember Centurion? A roman point and click strategy game?

There was also a Japanese F1 game that was graphically poor but had some of the best racing gameplay ever. I think it was called F1 Circus?? can anyone shed any light?

    Megadrive games I loved:

    Ghouls N Ghosts
    Strider
    Thunderforce III
    Revenge of Shinobi
    Rainbow Islands
    Decap Attack

There was also a game I can't remember the name of that I loved. It was a bit like Thrust on the C64 but not with vector style graphics. Can't believe that I cannot remember the title.
