Game Awards 2014

Replacement event for VGAs/VGX is taking place in Vegas in about 8 hours.

There may be some overlap with the PSX event Saturday/Sunday.

Things we know:
- There should be "more than a dozen" world premieres
- Microsoft aren't showing anything
- EA have a special announcement
- Something Arkham Knight related is expected
- Naughty Dog are there
- Kiefer Sutherland will be there (persumably Metal Gear related)

Polygon's expectations of this event:

The Game Awards
The Geoff Keighley-hosted and backed show will take place in Las Vegas on Friday evening at the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino. The show, which is planned to run more than two hours, will be livestreamed on Twitch, PlayStation Network, Xbox Live, YouTube and more.

Keighley promises somewhere between 12 and 18 world premieres, including our first look at Metal Gear Online, the multiplayer component of Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain. The Game Awards will also premiere the new King's Quest being developed by The Odd Gentlemen. Keighley said to expect "more than a dozen world premieres" at the show, with new looks at PlayStation 4 games Bloodborne, The Order: 1886 and No Man's Sky.

Electronic Arts will have a presence at the show. EA chief operating officer Peter Moore said on Twitter that the publisher will have "a special announcement" during The Game Awards. "Pretty sure no one will guess this one," Keighley later teased in a tweet to Moore.

Tetsuya Nomura, Final Fantasy designer and director of Kingdom Hearts 3, will be attending in some capacity. Nomura was in Los Angeles earlier this week, where he gave fans a new look at the next Kingdom Hearts, which we haven't seen much of since E3 2013.

Naughty Dog creative director Neil Druckmann also teased something for The Game Awards, after seeing a sneak peek of something that has him "very excited."

Two companies who have already ruled out new game announcements at the show are Fallout and Doom publisher Bethesda Softworks and Microsoft. Bethesda's Pete Hines said the company is attending to support Wolfenstein: The New Order developer Machinegames, but not showing anything new. Xbox head of global product marketing Aaron Greenberg said the company is "not planning any new game announcements" at The Game Awards.

In between all those announcements and revelations, Keighley and company will also be handing out some awards. Check out the list of nominees for this year's Game Awards.

Ea possibly announces the Underground series reboot, or lets us download and play a more up to date hardline beta.

Hopefully anyway.

As far as I can see, new footage/trailers for:
Bloodborne
No Man's Sky
The Order
The Witcher
Metal Gear Online
Dungeon Defenders (PS exclusive)
Godzilla (PS exclusive)

Dead Man's Sky and Zelda Wii U are the two standouts for me in the trailers.

Can't believe that Drive Club wasn't in the shortlist for driving/sports section. I've got FH2 and MK8 and both are great games, but both are bettered by Drive Club. I guess that shows you the penalty of releasing a game that's broken at launch! It's the best console racer i've ever played (and i've played most), but due to a broken online at launch, it didn't even make the catagory shortlist. Shame.

Yeah I had a great time with Drive Club, but for it to have been so broken for so long after being delayed is absolutely unforgivable. There is no way, no matter how good the game may have been, that it should be "rewarded" with nominations. It sends out a terrible message that legitimises broken games. It is a shame, as there is the basis of a really good game there, but that all of its USP's remained broken weeks after launch is shameful.

Yeah, Zelda looks nice. I think Nintendo have finally got me in for the WiiU. Been on the edge for while but this could be the decider.

I wouldn't wait for that mate. Loads of great games on it now. I'm just playing through the original GBA fire emblem on it again using the gamepad. Just superb. Loads of superb full price, indie and virtual console games on it.

It's going to have a ball next year with what's out on ps4 and Wii U. Or hopefully out lol.

Bloodborne
The order
Uncharted 4
Dying light
Captain toad
Splatoon
Zelda
Starfox

To name a few :)

Indeed mate... ZELDA and STARFOX.

Doesn't get much better than that in terms of gaming!

Where's the summary Det?
I couldn't find anything comprehensive last night during my google search. It was all bits and pieces.

Individual view though isn't it. Reviewers rated FH2 higher than DC even ignoring the issues.

I wouldn't say that... most of the reviews I saw marked it down because of online component was missing/unreliable... but also heard people say reviewers marked it down because it wasn't "open world" like Forza Horizon 2. Lol. Jaded.

Metacritic user reviews even had xbox trolls out the wazoo marking it zero.

Edit: just read some more reviews and peoplr marked it down for "no rain" and "no dynamic weather"... trolls, the lot of them. Dynamic weather was never touted as release day.

I dont see how they can give Dragon age Inquisition GOTY, dont get me wrong it's a great game and i'm having a ton of fun with it but game of the year no, Main reason it offers nothing new it's been seen and done many times before, yes it's done very well but that shouldn't be a reason to give it the title, it should have gone to shadows of mordor another game that has been done very well but with a key difference it has something not seen before with the nemisis system, who ever picked the winner for this gave the middle finger to new ideas, new systems, the try something new and instead went with a safe lazy bet, which is very sad to see, just my opinion of course.

FH2 is decent, but if I'm honest I haven't even touched it since drive club. I'm sure if DC was working as intended when reviewed, it would have scored higher.

All fair comment but the DC saga is unforgivable IMHO. If it was rushed for the PS4 launch and a bit broken then and sorted out later it would have been kind of understandable but the year delay (including all the accompanying hype) followed by a half baked game isn't really on. No way did it deserve to be nominated for, never mind win, Racing Game of the Year.

And that's without even going into the worst aspect of all; reneging on the promise of a "free" version to everyone who bought into PS4 and PSN+ at the console's launch last year. I don't regret buying my PS4 for a minute but I'd be a bit sick if I had bought it in anticipation of DC.

But your own view is absolutely your own. My point is that consensus of review opinion is that FH2 is the better game. You can say you disagree with those reviews, but perhaps they point to why one game is nominated over another.

Aren't reviews just opinions too though?

To me they are at least. They're all a bag of **** either way. Never listen to them.
