I've got Sky Broadband too. I don't have any problems connecting to the PSN, but do occasionally get logged out of the network with the 'A network error has occurred' message. I've made a few changes so hopefully this may be resolved now.

    Some things to check:

    - Assign a static address to the PS3 (not DHCP or one already in use!).
    - Make sure this address is excluded from the routers DHCP scope
    - Manually put in the IP address details and make sure the first DNS server is the IP address of your router. For the alternate DNS address put in Sky's DNS server 87.86.189.16
    - Put your PS3 in the routers DMZ (add it as the default DMZ server). I guess this could potentially make the PS3 less secure than behind the firewall, but if it stops connection problems (by blocking ports) then thats a good enough reason for me to do it. I tried adding all the PS3 ports as a service but still got random disconnects.
    - Enable UPnP on the router if it's not already.
    - Test the connection and make sure it reports NAT Type as 2.

Login to the Sky router (//192.168.0.1) with username admin, password sky
