The final contestants (I think :)

If anybody is still following my quest to find speakers to go with my new AVR-200 and Q100, here's final contestants so far:
- Kef Q1 (x5)
- B&W CDM1NT (and the rest of the CDM package)
- Dynaudio Audience 42 (+42C+42W)
- Dynaudio Audience 52 (+42C+42W)
- M&K S-85 (which I can't find anywhere around London ?!)

Possibly, but probably not:
- B&W 602 S3 (+LCR + 600/601 S3)
- B&W VM1

Later (have you got 'em yet, Uncle Eric ? :) ):
- Velodyne SPL-523

Need not apply:
- Kef "eggs"

Budget was £1K (for 5 speakers), but I'll go to £2K if necessary ;)

I will be listening away this weekend - Any other suggestions ?

Hi BJ,
Should have the Velodyne centre stage system in by Wednesday. I will be doing a shootout between these and the Gallo system I recieved for evaluation today.

Eric

Well, 'cuz I'm nuts :)

I originally started with a 6-800 pound budget, but I can easily stretch it, so I decided to "look up" a bit.

Still leaning towards Dynaudio 42+42C+42W.......

We have the above systems on demo most of the time. They are usually run with the AVR200 and DV88 in our AV demo room.

The speakers that we don't keep on demo are the SNT and CNT.

Feel free to drop me an email or call in the shop anytime.

Sadly it's my last day at TSG tomorrow, and then I'm off to the land of B&W (Brighton) for Uni to study Electronic engineering.

Give the new Monitor Audio Silver series a try. I reckoned they were loads better than the Old S5i / S8i jobs.

I have a Kef Q series setup.
I have a pair of Q3s up front
A Q9c in the middle
and three 'eggs at the back.
The idea is that I will, at some point, get some Q7s for the front and move the Q3s to the rear. But to be honest, the 'eggs' sound awesome and don't stick out like a sore thumb in my front room.

Not sure why you would want 5 Q1s. They do make a very nice centre speaker in the Q9c (granted it does cost the same as a pair of Q1s)
A new dipole surround speaker has just been released but they are £400 a pair. Lovely looking though.

Richard.

And it's not a patch on the Q1. You'd want 5 Q1's because the idea of 5.1 surround is that all your 5 full frequency channels are the same, the only way to acheive this speaker wise is to use the same one.

That's told me then!
I thought the idea was that the drivers were all the same. (and yes I know my eggs are different)
Surely Kef have designed the Q9c to be optimised for vocal reproduction.

OK, I'll change the tack of my arguement - the Q9c looks the poodles plums in the centre!

please be gentle, I'm very new to all this.

Hey Retro - good luck in Brighton - I used to live in Wycombe & have visited TSG on more than one occasion. Nice listening rooms upstairs if I remember correctly?

Cheers Choddo. They have 3 demo rooms, one for dedicated AV, one for dedicated hifi, and a larger one for big AV of hifi demos, Proceed, B&W Nautilus etc.
