has anyone had any problems with this r2 dvd. it looks quit blurry at times , especially peoples faces even when walking. they lose all definition and colours seem to leak from their faces.

its played through a pioneer dcs-303 and s-video to s-video connection.

i know 100 herzt tvs can cause this but this is by far the worst in my collection.

do anybody have any ideas , could the disk be at fault?

I'm hoping its the tv as im waiting for a replacement.

just wondered if anyone else had this problem with TFATF.

    Hi,

Nope not had this problem, in fact TFATF is probably one of the sharpest looking images around, so it could be the disc if your other films play ok on your tv. Can you try it elsewhere on another tv?.

just something to note s video isnt the best connection. Have you considered using a RGB scart > RGBscart.

I connected my dvd to plasma with a s-video originally and the quality was pants. I am now using a RGB scart > component.

Also have you tried any other dvd,s ?????????????.

I thought the RGB on the SCART output is different to the three Component inputs?

    Similar, but different.

it is , I'm using a converter as plasmas dont have RGB scart connectors on them.

RGBScart is supposed to be the best quality signal
Component - comes a close second
    s-video - third - again for video's
composite - fourth - used for videos mainly

I heard Component is better than SCART RGB, as the picture on DVD is stored component-ly or sum fink....

On a 50hz RPTV via component from SD220e it looks fine.

Mind you, MY face was blurred, but that was the Yamaha 630 shaking the entire street with the soundtrack!

Nathan - you caught me out

Component - is better than Scart RGB

    So

    Component
    RGB Scart
    S - video
    Composite

I noticed a big difference between s-video and RGB Scart.

The thing is that only High end dvd players have component
    connecters.

There are numerous threads on the benefits of the various video connection types in the Plasma/LCD forum. You should take a look there. The "component versus RGB" debate is evidently a complex one.

    Thanks for the feedback everyone:smashin:

Ive just tried the disc on my old 50hrtz 4:3 tv but via a ps2 .picture quality not a patch on 100hrtz but it doesnt seem to have the other problems.

I cannot try rgb connection as the pioneer dcs-303 only has s-video connection:( the system does get good reviews though.

My tv has a purity problem in the bottom left hand corner which can be seen on primary colours as a pinkish tinge and aslight convergence problem seen on thx test grid wonder if this could be the cause of the problem? still waiting for a delivery date for a replacement set off sound and vision. hope this clears the problem.

What you're seeing is unlikely to be the result of using S-Video which, although of lower quality than RGB or component, is capable of excellent results. If the problem is present on a 100Hz TV but not on a 50Hz model, then I would suspect the culprit is the digital processing in the 100Hz set.

My Toshiba 42PW23P also has a pink tint to the right- found out it's called Lens Striping, and all RPTV's might suffer from it.

The Cyberhome CHDVD302 has component out and it's only £75, far from high end. ;)

my FAF disc plays perfectly, consistantly good picture and sound. Only problem being the picture gets very juddery at the beginning when panning from the truck over to toretto's and when panning down onto the Supra entering race wars. Thats probably my setup though tbh.
