Thanks for review. Many audiophiles at various forums would concur with your 10/10 score for the audio. Waiting for both 1 and 2 to drop to £9.99 at HMV

I see you've given the movie itself an extra mark out of 10, Cas. Has it improved since you first watched it?

Can't tell if that's smartass sarcasm or not. If it's not, the answer is really obvious, it was marked as to how he felt at the time of watching, meaning he thought it slightly better second time round, something I completely understand.

“but The Equalizer 2 - at least in its uncut 18-rated home format edition (exclusive to the 4K release, mind you)”

Uncut version adds a point :D

I definitely felt more disappointed at the cinema; the bloated runtime got to me and I was painfully aware it had been cut.

      Thanks for the Review Cas.

Being of an age, I dearly remember Edward Woodward in the TV series The Equaliser. That was truly excellent TV. :)
Please excuse my ignorance, but the premise of these Movies seems similar to that series (I haven't had chance to see either of these yet); is there a connection, or is it just coincidence?

Yes it’s a remake; same character, name, intelligence background and premise.

Looks slightly different though: he’s got less hair.

:rotfl: Thank you Cas. Ok, I need to see these. I'm probably biased but I don't think they will match the calm deadliness of Woodward in the part, even though I am a big fan of Denzel Washington.

Oooh, Washington is the epitome of calm deadliness in these movies. As I said in the review, he barely breaks a sweat hacking and slashing through these guys. There's a disquietingly detached look in his eyes too.

This was pretty sh*t comparing to the 1st film.
It was like watching a low budget TV show to me... I am not sure what happened... Maybe was different director, but felt entirely different than the previous... less "dark" and cinematic. I likde Denzel's character and the end-scene was great, but apart from that this was an unnecessary and badly made sequel.

An even more tenuous link with the origina tv show is the car in Detective Masters’ garage in the first film:

A sequel to Man On Fire (cough or no cough) would be the worst idea. The story was told, the redemption was complete and...’other reasons’.

If there was to be a sequel to any Denzel films I’m sure many would wish for Inside Man 2, or another Lincoln Rhyme film (I’d go for The Empty chair), or Ricochet 2 (bats**t crazy film, check it out)...or maybe even a Crimson Tide 2, with Denzel (Hunter) as the grizzled veteran challenged by a new young Officer (presumably bloody Zendaya as she’s in everything now....) or, and I know I may look a little crazy now, a Book Of Eli II, but now he has to make it to Mecca with a wild and crazy story to put down on parchment.

Nice review Cas. Once monday’s Filmocalypse is over (Fallout, AntMan/Wasp, Trans Hotel 3, Westworld S2, Big Leb) I’ll be all over The Eq 1&2 in 4K!

Sorry, perhaps I wasn't clear (btw you may want to spoiler your comment), what would have been great is if they stuck with the book's ending and made it into a franchise, as there were plenty more (good) books ripe for adaptation in the Creasy series.

And yes to Lincoln - although I've read some of the other books and they are nowhere near as good as the story to the Bone Collector, with Lincoln often just a bystander to the events before they magically come to a contrived conclusion.

Apologies I didn’t know how to spoiler warning text so I’ve edited the original post.

Thank you. I wasn’t aware that MOF was even based on a series of books.

Yes, they are not the best written books I've come across (very dry), but the character is excellent, and the description of the action sequences is exquisite (Christopher Walken's character, IIRC, was insanely fast at reloading an SMG).

And the progression in terms of the characters - ironically, much like the two main characters in the Lincoln novels - is what keeps you hooked, as the Creasy novels focus on his mentoring relationship too.

      @Casimir Harlow

glad you are back on the 4k bandwagon Cas ;)

Thanks also for a great review :smashin:

I watched this last weekend (for the 1st time as did not see it at the cinema).

I thoroughly enjoyed it and the action when it comes is excellent isn't it - Denzel is great in the part isn't he and very calculated as you say. The fight and gun sequences felt very well thought out too - not just mindless violence.

The picture I agree was excellent and the sound was incredible - I actually had to turn my Amp down a few notches for once - it was superb !

It was a decent enough story with enough substance even if not as good as the 1st film in that respect but still a very enjoyable watch.

Agree with your review ... as is normally the case :)

It's a 7.5, maybe 8/10 for me, enjoyable stuff and Denzel is always very watchable.

Not quite as good as the first one as it seemed that he was "acting like a tough guy" in this one, whereas he just seemed had a lot calmer and gentler personality in the first one... which I preferred.

Yeah I know "gentle" is not the word to describe what he does but you know what I mean :p

While the complete lack of anything onscreen when this disc is paused is welcome after the recent huge Disney/Marvel efforts, what complete idiot at Sony decided it would be oh so cool to do a bright white gradient covering much of the screen along with a bright red progress bar if you used Fast Forward, Rewind or Chapter Skip, and what absolute cretin signed off on this idea.
Some of us watching have Oleds with burn in to worry about...
