Only last year i bought a top of the range Sony 900v dvdplayer thinking it would play everything.More often than not i now get the "C1300 disc is dirty" error message when playing dvd-r's.
    Its not every disc,approx 50%.

Is there anything you can do,why does it happen?

(Bulkpaq or Datasafe media and Nero)

    Hi,
I was getting alot of the same error message, on my Sony RDR-GX7 DVD recorder, when recording.
I sent it back to Sony, and they did a software update. It seems better now, but I still get the same error from time to time...:(

Maybe you need a software update too???

    Hi,

In my case, I just sent it back to the place i purchased it from.
As it was only 3 mouths old.

Here is an email address for Sony service-
    SUK.generalCIC@eu.sony.com

Tell them the problem, and ask for advice.

    They answer in 2-3 days.

Good luck, I hope you get it fixed:smashin:

its a sign the laser is failing, or can't focus on the dvd correctly.

I had the same problem earlier this year on my 900. Turned out the laser needed to be replaced. Done free by Seven oaks.

Jeez this thread is over 2 1/2 years old

Like I posted back in 2003, its a laser problem. It needs to be replaced.

To be honest you could (will) get a new player with more features ect. for what it will cost to have the repair done :)

My RDR-GX7 had been rejecting all discs burned and purchased. Giving a "disc is dirty" or c1300 message with every disc. Seeing how this seems to indicate a bad laser, I tried as a last resort to blow the dust off the laser lens. I got a can of compressed air and stuck the thin tube down in the open tray and blew a mess of dust out. I also opened the case and blew the dust of the circuit boards.

All my discs started working again.
