Has anybody else noticed the recent decline in customer service at Play 247?<br />2 weeks on the trot now I have had discs on order with them that have shown "processing" next to them for 5 days on my account page and twice I have had to ring them to get them to post them because they no longer answer e-mails.<br />I remember when they first started, they rang me on a Sunday to inform me that my credit card had expired and if it wasn't to much trouble could they have the new number. A friend of mine recently had CAPE FEAR on order and had to ring 10 days after it was released to remind them to send it.<br />LAST CHANCE PLAY!!! FutureEnt have a good reputation and are looking good for some pre orders. <img src="mad.gif" border="0">

I guess you are referring to R1 stuff. I believe post from the States is still not up to 'full-speed'<br />I still received FC1&2 box and Total Recall within 3-4 days.<br />No complaints here <img src="smile.gif" border="0">

Same goes here - i've been ordering from Play for 18 months and must have bought in excess of 200 discs from them.Other than the odd postal delay I have never had any problems. For an online business they are in my view, excellent

Must just be me then. The stuff was in stock as my neighbours were receiving their discs. I sat droolong over my mates copy of The Mummy Returns while mine was "processing" for 5 days.<br />As a matter of interest, the other disc this week was volume 3 of the Thunderbirds set. Both marked as "in stock" and "usually despatched within 24 hours".<br />I must admit, I have never had any problems with them before. Let's hope they are not going to be another company who become a victim of their own success. <img src="rolleyes.gif" border="0">

I have never had anything but a 1st class service from Play in the past. However, I have had a couple of discs on order for a few days now that were listed as in-stock.When checking my account the order status is listed as "order taken"! They havn't even reached the processing stage yet, which is strange.I certainly can't recall this happening in the past when I've ordered.<br />Usually when ordereding in-stock items they reach the processing stage immediatly with the money authorised to be taken from the account and then dispatched within 24 hours as advertised.

Because I've had such a great service in the past I'm prepared to give them the benefit of the doubt......for now.

Been waiting nine days for two region 2 dvds that were in stock. They should be arriving tomorrow as the money has been withdrawn from my account. This is the longest Ive waited since I started ordering from play five months ago.

I've now got nine films (4 are r2, 5 are r1) that have said processing for about three weeks now. My first delays occured at the end of August, before the US tragedy. I used to be someone that would jump to Plays defence when it came to top service, but this is now getting to be a joke. I've emailed them twice in the last 5 days with no reply. If they need a phone call to remind them to sell me some films then they shouldn't be in business. The worst thing is when friends (new customers) order something on its release and get it before me when I have pre-ordered the film and have been using Play for ages!

I ordered six "£7.50" DVDs all arrived within a week, including 2 which where out of stock when ordered.

Play are not perfect, but on average very good.

I have a confession:- One of the DVDs was Willy Wonka & the chocolate factory! <img src="graemlins/blush.gif" border="0" alt="[Blush]" /> . Feel free to call sad/weirdo/____________(enter new insult here)<br />Well you have to have a wide selection for when guests call........Thats my excuse and i'm sticking to it! <img src="graemlins/evil.gif" border="0" alt="[Evil]" />

Not exactly a problem as such, but has anyone else noticed that they seem to have given up on issuing tracking numbers for their orders?

It used to be you could click on the code starting with "JR" on the order summary screen after the order had been posted and "track" your package.

I ordered the R2 version of Snow White last week (in stock at the time) and STILL haven't received it. Might as well hasve gone down to the local HMV.

No sorry, servic HAS deteriorated, I won't be using them again until I hear things improve.

I made mention of Play's inconsistent service on another topic. My copy of The Simpsons, order on 5 July, eventually turned up 10 days after it was supposedly available. On the day before it turned up and after repeated emails, I had 2 responses. The first from 'info' saying that the supplies had been replenished and that their order mechanism had some glitches, the second message from 'feedback' said that they were still awaiting supplies. In the meantime, TMR had been ordered and delivered within days. Seems that like Movityme and others, Play ocasionally experience problems despite best intentions. When they eventually responded, at least they were honest about their errors, so I will use them again.

Play really are outdoing themselves at the moment!!
The mummy returns arrived today at last!!
The spool is broken so the disc has been bouncing around in the box all the way from Jersey. Can't really blame them for that one, however, a SECOND copy of a Knights Tale also arrived this morning, also of it's spool and a bit sick from all that bouncing around!!
I have only been billed for 1 though so that's a bit of payback.
I cancelled all my pre-orders with them the other day and placed them with Future Ent. They come highly recomended from a good friend of mine.

I have to say that play have been very good for me, but, being an impatient sod, i have to wonder how other suppliers have pre oders before them consistently. Movietyme had bridget jones in easily 10 days ago and futureent a couple of days but it has not reached play. I know it is a very minor complaint! but im choosy!

Never had a problem, had 30+ orders now and nothing but A1 service. Guess I am lucky. Received my region 1 Godfather trilogy today, from them, I thought it wasn't out until the 9th.

I have to say I find the general response by companies to emails disgusting... It's as if it's a lesser form of communication. Yet these companies are quite happy to take orders via the WWW so why not customer services. It's a lot easier to respond to a quick email than pick up the phone. [Or is that just me] Am experiencing problems with play at the moment with double orders and these are pre September orders... But usually the most reliable supplier.

    Hi Len

Ofcourse it's easy to write an email but it
can turn into a "tennis match".
Why not just phone them. It's very direct and fast too. A few words on the phone can be equal to a few possible complicated\confusing emails!

I orderded R2 "Terminator" from play.com abt 2 months ago and recently noticed I had two disk ones. I called them up and said I wanted a repacement but Region 1 and they said it was ok and I was to send the dvd back and they paid for the recorded delivered postage.
    That's it ..end of problem!

So we can use the convenience of WWW for shopping and telephone for important\urgent queries.

Although play.com reply by email after 48hrs or so..they're phone lines have never been busy, for me anyway.

They're only human.. it's "ok" to make mistakes! Just make a phone call...

    Cya,
    Shaz

The problem with e-mails is that they are a very impersonal form of communication. Like much 'chat' on the internet misunderstandings abound.

It is also unfortunate that a lot of e-mails are terse to the point of rudeness. I've found this is the case with e-mail replys to enquiries that I've received from companies I previously purchased goods from. Indeed I'd go as far as to say there are many companies I no longer use for this reason (courtesy costs nothing, after all).

All I can say is that I've never failed to gain a response from either Play or Movietyme. Perhaps I have been fortunate in not having many what I would deem to be delivery problems.

I see The Phantom Menace is in stock and shipping now.
I use Play, they were the first R1 supplier I ever tried and I'm still happy with their service. No matter how good a company is they'll always have complaints, it happens to all companies. Delivery speed doesn't make much diff to me as I'm always waiting for a disc from one or other of my suppliers, but I've never had cause to chase them over anything and they always sort out any problems like loose discs in boxes very quickly.

Still, one mans meat is another mans murder, so to speak.

Just to put my thoughts on the subject forward,

I too think email is a very impersonal method of customer service. I ordered 'The Goonies' region 1, it took 2 weeks to arrive, I finally got it on 04/10/01. That is really pathetic, and what got me most annoyed is that they blamed the attacks in New York as the reason for the slow delivery time. Can't help but feel they are milking that as a 'plausible' excuse. Also their phone are never answered, which makes me just want to tear someones throat out, especially when the word 'processing' is by your order for 5, 6, 7, 8 days in a row.

(Cigarette now lit) I am done bitching now...how therapeutic to know I am not the only one who sees a drop in service from what was once a great mail order company....SORT IT OUT NOW PLAY!!!!

Of the 100s of titles I have ordered with PLAY in the past I have had nothing but prompt service from them.

On the couple of occasions I needed to return a DVD ( TOY STORY box set was faulty and LEON R1 had dodgy soundtrack ) they replaced everything quickly.

However I have had my last dozen or so DVDs from MOVIETYME as they get them to me quicker and for the same price.

Will be interesting to see what happens over the next few weeks as I have around 20 pre-orders with PLAY and these problems seem to be recent

Jersey Telecom told me that there have been a number of problems on the island and Play247 had no phone service for a time a couple of weeks ago. The New York disaster did have a serious effect on shipments as no planes were flying for five days which created a huge backlog of mail. Play are very concerned about these criticisms and are doing their best to keep service up to standard.
