I'll kick things off, I'd love to see Criterion release their original Spinal Tap title on Blu-ray and the same goes for Armageddon. I still have both on Criterion DVD but a Blu-ray release would be great, the latter title in particular is excellent with an extended cut of the film, commentary tracks, behind-the-scenes footage and the funniest gag reel I've ever seen - although it will result in the disc being rated 15! Speaking of Michael Bay, Criterion also did a great DVD release for The Rock as well. I'd also love to see Criterion release the Blu-rays they produced in the US for Wes Anderson's films. They have covered them all apart from The Grand Budapest Hotel, which is hopefully in the works.

The Rock was the first Criterion I owned. Definitely sparked an obsession ever since! Weren't Criterion releasing laser discs back in the day?

The Criterion LaserDisc of the International Cut of Blade Runner was one of the first I bought, it was a huge thrill seeing those extra scenes of violence back in 1994.

I'm concerned they have kept the spine numbering as per the US counterparts.

There will be inevitable gaps due to rights etc.

I'm looking for Kwaidan, a Japanese classic ghost story to be available in Reg B version in Blu-Ray, which was released recently but only available in Reg A.

Loving the fact that Criterion are now releasing in the UK. I owned Videodrome on DVD before making the jump to blu-ray and I now have sixty-odd films (those B&N half price sales are amazing). While there hasn't been an announcement or anything, the fact they have access to the Sony back catalogue and Criterion's love of Cronenberg, I really hope Crash gets the treatment it deserves.

L'Avventura one of the next up releases too, one of my faves, fantastic to be able to have that and It Happened One Night in my collection.....whether I go back to collecting them all is another thing...not sure, given I have a fair few in their current UK release instead, and not sure it's overly worth it to upgrade.....

It looks like they're set to announce an upgrade of Carnival of Souls in the US.

I wonder if we'll get this at the same time, or if it'll be 'wait and see'.

I don't mind waiting (a little), but they really need t let us know which ones we'll eventually be getting.

If it isn't coming to the UK I'll import.

      Criterion actually released Armageddon??? :?

I'm very excited about this too (naturally). I think we'll see some great films and hopefully many of those already released in the states will make their way to the UK :)

The Man Who Fell to Earth, which sadly is out of print in the US and back in the control of the original copyright holders, but maybe a legal loophole will allow them to issue it here

Looking at Criterion releases in general they do seem to be very odd choices.
Similarly with The Game by Fincher. As much as I like The Game, I thought SE7EN would've been a better choice for a release.

Yep, I'm ALL about the quality

It is difficult to associate Criterion with being a gratuitous explosion label.

It all comes down to what they have access to. SE7EN was a New Line film which is now in the Warners library and sadly Warners never let third party companies near their films. The Game was Polygram which was bought by Universal who allow Criterion to release some of their films.

Has anyone listened to the commentary on Armageddon? It starts with a member of staff from Criterion near-apologising for releasing it, but they wanted a film that would push the then infant DVD format to the limit.

Oh, Crtiterion announced their July line up last night and if you wanted Terry Malik's The New World in three (!) different cuts, then your dream has come true!

Excellent news about The New World, I've got the other three Malick Criterion Blu-ray releases (Badlands, Days of Heaven and The Thin Red Line).

I didn't consider the production company side of it. Shame though as SE7EN and also Fight Club would've been great releases.
I haven't watched Armageddon for years. My copy is in the attic. I think it was also the directors cut too, which I've not seen anywhere else. It was a great package, just not a particularly great film.
I'm definitely getting The New World when that comes out.

Not that big into Malick but I do really like The Thin Red Line. It's his best film for me and I have that on blu ray. I may blind buy The New World, I dunno.

Oh man, I would be just about the happiest man if they finally released a Region-B Blu-ray of this Wes Anderson masterpiece!
