I have recently started making Negroni's at home and wondered if there was a particular favourite you make up for parties/weekends/or just for the hell of it?

Negroni is a super simple one and requires very little effort, but the bitterness and also strength is a winner for me. i would also like to add to my armory of recipes so please share your particular

Gin 50 ml
Vermouth 50 ml
Campari Rosso 50 ml

Pour into shaker with lots of ice, let it chill out a bit (literally) then strain into glass with also lots of ice and add a slice of orange. ooh yeah bring on home time.

I don't make my own cocktails but do visit the best bars in the world when I can:

The World's 50 Best Bars

Been to 7 out of the 8 in London, 5 of the 6 in Singapore and all in Hong Kong.
Going to NYC next month and going to hit those.

My favourite is Happiness Forgets in London. It is just a cosy speakeasy but the drinks, service and atmosphere are amazing.

"The World's 50 Best Bars".

How do they know this?
What is it based on?
Surely they cant have been to every cocktail bar in the world.
In which case it has got to be based on what people have recommended in a poll.
I have never heard of a seen a poll, and surely its got to be based on the most popular (is in the ones in large cities) that have a lot of people, rather than smaller towns with fewer people.
I guess it could be through Trip Advisor, but again those in big cities would get more votes than those that are not.
Not being argumentative, just interested in knowing how they come to this conclusion.
There is a nice one in York called The Evil Eye, but that isn't as busy as say those in London so may not ever make the list.

I take it you're using Vermouth Rosso - I use Martini Rosso - as far as I know Campari is always red ?

I don't bother putting my negroni into the shaker - add a massive ice ball to a tumbler and add the ingredients straight in - give it a stir if you want to ;) It all mixes pretty simply by itself.

Try a Contessa - switch out the Campari for Aperol and the red vermouth for white - slightly sweeter and delicious!

There's also a White Negroni though you'll need to be a bit more adventurous in sourcing the ingredients. e.g.
White Negroni - Sipsmith

In general the premium spirit companies have a good selection of cocktail recipes.

The cocktail I return to over and over and over again is the dry martini.
There are a million "perfect" ways to mix one and everyone is convinced they've got the best one ;)

I add a splash of Noilly Pratt vermouth to a full shaker of ice. Then a good double of good gin - Sipsmith for instance - and gently stir until the shaker is really frosty, then strain into a martini glass. Garnish with an olive or a twist of lemon peel depending on what you fancy.

Then to be a heretic ;), last night I tried a variation using Tanqueray Flor de Sevilla and triple sec - if you like the orange in the Negroni you'll love that too.

The tanqueray is currently on special at Sainsburys, £20 for 70cl.

Once youve got some tanqueray mix it with some triple sec and some lemon juice and a decent dollop of marmalade and you've got a breakfast martini, just remember to double strain the drink i personally use the cocktail strainer and then sit a tea strainer on the rim of the martini glass

Yep it was a CL. Just noticed the bottom two are the same pic. The shots were wine, orange gin and absinthe.
