    Hi

Just got the film THE BUNKER. Quite enjoyed it but during the film every now and then it would pause slightly or jump. OR go Blocky. It has to be a problem with the disc as it does it on the other dvd player too. Anyone else had this problem.

    cheers:(

Totally off topic, I know, but being a war movie fiend Mr Dude, maybe you should check out a Russian film about the war in Chechnya called Vojna, or it's nglish title "The War". It's just come out on super-cheap R3 (about £4) and you can pick it up from www.dddhouse.com
I remember seeing some seriously brutal clips on Sky News when they reported on it breaking Russian box office records (probably not too difficult:rolleyes: ) about a year ago and thought "I have to see this film". Apparently it's a very down-to-earth look at the CHechnya conflict that doesn't pander to any political viewpoint and doesn't hold back when it comes to portraying outright slaughter or both soldiers and civilians. Certainly looks interesting... I've ordered me a copy anyway. Thought maybe it might be up your alley

    Dude

I too had the same problems when I watched my copy of the bunker which I purchased last Saturday from Virgin. I didn't make a note of where and when it happenned but from what I remember it happened twice. Same symptoms as yours.

Dodgy batch? Not really too much of a problem. Dont think it was bad enough to make me take it back.

    Good film though.......

    Hey Sam

thanks for that. Yeah, it was not a bad enough fault for me to return it. Just wondered if it was just my copy or not. Thanks for the info. I enjoyed it but found it a bit confusing!!!!!! I did not understand the end at all.

    cheers

Yep, same problems here. I think it did it twice, definitely a problem with the mastering. Sort of like a sound dropout, followed by a sort of strobe effect for about 2 seconds. If it had done it more often I'd be peeved, but in this case it didn't seem particularly intrusive

i watched 'no man's land' a couple of days ago.
    what a great film.
really gets into the politics of modern warfare.
i recomend it to any war film fans like myself.

my copy of 'the bunker' is on order.
looks as though its going to be faulty.

I have a friend who was in "The Bunker" he is one of the German soldiers shooting those people into the pit, he gets his face on screen a few times and gets his hand/arm executing someone.

He also kicks dirt/dust onto them but it was not in the film, mabye it is on the deleted scenes.

I saw a pre-release VHS tape and there were no Audio\Video problems at all.

You can get the R2 version from play but currently they are out of stock.

    here is the link.

A guy I know was in this too. He directed the documentary and appears at the end of it. Hes called Steve Moor and he has a film poster shop in Sheffield. I think Andy Stook was talking about the other film though, called THE WAR

Hey all you lot, call me thick but.....

i watched this again today and I still cant quite understand it. I gather that the guys in the bunker shot some deserters and these deserters now haunt the bunker?? Was the old soldiers son one of the shot deserters? Why did Jason Flemyng survive?

    thanks

That's Hong Kong dollars. Relax, you get about 10 of them to the £. They quote a US$ price aswell, which is under $6.

I've not heard of the Russian war movie "The War" being released anywhere else in the world yet. Probably in Russia, but I doubt there'd be the English subtitles on it.

    Edit: 29/4
Arrived this morning (along with the HK release of Bichunmoo for £3), so I'll give you the lowdown when I've watched it.

have you tried the commentary yet? Maybe it'll throw some light on it.
I think, for me, The Bunker was a film that worked pretty well on it's atmosphere, so I'm not looking too deeply at it at the moment. When I get chance to watch it again I'll see if I can unravel some of the stuff that's in there. Seems along the same kind of lines as Deathwatch though, but better.

The War was quite good. Interesting film, doesn't really show anyone in a good light regarding the war in Chechnya, and they even have a pop at the UK's Channel 4 aswell. Quite brutal in places, especially where the Chechen treatment of prisoners is concerned, and the violence/combat sequences are done so matter-of-factly that it seems pretty realistic. It's certainly an interesting take on the modern war movie genre. Certainly worth a look, and only really let down by some of the subtitling, but at about £4 it's not really a problem from where I'm sitting.

I've started a thread over on the forum at www.salvationfilms.co.uk about problems with the bunker. Might be an idea if some of you guys jump onboard and we'll see if we can get to the bottom of this. Apparently there's already 2 different pressing of the disc floating around with different menu screens, maybe the problem was/is specific to one batch.
Salvation are usually pretty good answering queries on their forum so we might have some joy.

Be aware though, Salvation also distribute R18 titles and you have to do the "I'm over 18" thing before you enter the site, so if you've got anti-porn software on your PC you might have probs accessing the site.

Here's a link to their forum anyway...

    Rambo,

i received and watched my copy (the bunker) today
and have all the same probs.

i emailed the MD at salvation. Maybe he can shed some light on this.

i noticed that the menus were near to useless, none of the
    extras would play.

i therefore played the disk in the PC and used windows media
player to access the individual chapters. This worked ok
if your interested in what else is on the disk.

i wouldnt mind a fixed copy if they ever solve the problem.
no point in sending it back just for another duff one.

The menus and extras worked OK on my copy, although there were similar mastering problems with the short film The Trick - picture/sound break-up etc.

Hopefully we'll be able to get to the bottom of this between us. Like you say, what's the point of returning a disc when all you're going to get is another duff one? This definitely goes deeper than a handful of badly pressed copies slipping through the net.

Shaun, had another watch of the movie last night and came to this conclusion....

The Bunker is built on the "evil" site of the plague pit, as in Miras's story, which kind of makes it a conduit, or channel for spirits/ghosts. Werner, Miras's son, was killed during the DDay invasion (nothing to suggest he was one of the executed deserters as far as I could see) and came back to visit his dad regularly via the bunker. Once our merry band of Germans took up residence in the bunker, the ghosts of the deserters they'd shot took the chance to come through the gateway (Miras says "this time when Werner came back he brought others with him") and start harassing the Germans by way of getting their revenge for their untimely deaths.

Although, to be honest, I'm more inclined to believe that, ultimately, fear was playing tricks on them. Miras wasn't exactly sane, Sheck was off his t*ts on speed all the time and obviously showed effects of amphetemine psychosis, the rest were struggling with guilt over the deserters incident which coupled with fear and paranoia and the ghost stories Miras was feeding them about the tunnels started them behaving irrationally and thinking they were seeing things they weren't. Most of it was down to them being in a highly suggestable state and in fear of their lives.

That's the beauty of it though, it works either way. They even mentioned at one point that they thought the Americans could be pumping gas into the tunnels.... maybe they were.

About the problems with this disk. It looks like the current disks in the shops may have been recalled as everywhere seems to be out of stock. I'm trying to pick up a copy and can't find one anywhere.:(

A quick question about the sound is it in 5.1 or just stereo?

Sounds like 2.0 surround to me, though not much in the way of "surround". Still quite atmospheric in places, but a missed opportunity as far as the audio goes.

Agreed. At the end of the credits a Dolby EX surround logo appears - 6.1 sound would have been most welcome. I had the same disc problems mentioned in past threads on my Xbox but NOT on my Panasonic A7.
