Wow, that brings back some memories. Loved the first two albums, never got around to getting to the third. How did it compare to the others?

Do Linn still own the copyright to AWATR & Hats? If so could be an SACD release for them both be on the cards?

Gordon - saying that "Peace at Last" is better than "Hats" is fighting talk!!! but saying that i've never heard a duff Blue Nile track. I rate all three albums as 10/10

I bought the new single yesterday - its called "i would never" and its typically Blue Nile.

as for the copyright question - on the single the B side is "I love this life" which to those who know was thier first single back in 1981. according to the small print the rights belong to "WB music corp, Paul Buchanan and Coldstream music" so i make of that what you will.

Kenny - As for an SACD or DVD-Audio disk only in my wettest dreams do such things exist but i'll happly sell my teenage daughters into the white slave trade to get one!

If anyone hears of them touring will they post please!!! i saw them in 96 and spent most of the gig crying tears of joy Mr Buchanan looked at me a couple of times and must have thought i was a nutter! :rotfl: his voice is so much better live.

can honestly say I don't know any of their stuff (that I'm aware of anyway), but I'm intrigued as many people rate them.
    How would you describe them?
are they similar to anyone else?

They are impossiable to describe. if you have ever had your heart broken then that is what the blue nile sound like. There isn't a band i'd regard higher than the Blue Nile and they sound like know one else.

I also take great pride in the fact that only a select few people even know about them.

There are a number of songs that over the years have made me cry because they have been so perfect the first time i heard "London Calling" by the Clash, "Time" by Pink Floyd, "All Along The Watch Tower" by Hendrix and nearly all of the Blue Nile back catalogue.

In an age of "instant" pop star through TV and bombastic bands like the Darkness trying to convince us they are orginal the blue nile are like a breath of fresh air. not commercial and not trying to get chart success.

give the CD a punt, there are worse things to spend a tenner on.

Thanks for the reply, this could be a difficult one to answer, but which album is it best to start with? - reviews on amazon all get 5 stars
I'm a massive Floyd/Waters fan if that helps

i've never heard a duff track - but some are a bit weird (but they are mostly B sides.

If there was ever music that could speak directly to your soul, it's the Blue Nile.

    Looking forward to 'gettin' High'

A word of warning - the new album is copy protected. There is nothing indicating this on the packaging or CD but I've just phoned the label and they confirmed it. They're not sure who took the decision (a suit no doubt) and are pushing for a repress already.

All I want to do is get it onto my iPod, but Nero won't even rip an image to get round it that way.

Great album, but on a point of principle back to the shop it goes. I will not be told where i can play music that I have legitimately purchased.

Must admit that I wasn't able to do anything with the CD on my PC using EAC and Alcohol 120%, but I'm copying it now using iTunes on my iBook. Will let you know how it goes.

Nothing on my PC would recognise it either, but iTunes on my iBook saw it fine. Imported the CD as WAV files, transferred them wirelessly over to the PC, and then used EAC to convert to MP3's at 320kBit/s.

Ain't technology a wonderful thing!

Only similar in that there's a good chance that anyone buying something by The Blue Nile may also have something by at least one or two of those listed perhaps... What statistics did they use to make it I wonder?!

if you want to rip it - you may need an xbox - get the box to rip it to wma - then transfer back to PC and convert to MP3 - then transfer back for use in media centre etc.

    Just a thought.

Yeah i know what you mean i am a fan of 17 of the groups on that list but none of them could be described as being similar to The Blue Nile as imo they are unique.

An idea, but not one that would do any (converting format twice: CD > WMA > MP3) justice to the quality of a Blue Nile recording!
