What's everybody's favourite scene from any of the 6 Star Wars films? I'm talking - pod race, trench run, Sarlack pit, lava lightsabre duel...

I've got to go old skool and say the Death Star trench run, when the Millennium Falcon shows up just as everything seems doomed and Luke plants the killer hit - has to be the pinnacle for me.

On a similar theme but from Return of the Jedi, Just after Luke has been rescued by Darth Vader. The tracking shot of the millenium falcon and x wing fighters as they fly over the death star before diving into the shaft.

I have to say I really enjoy the three-way lightsabre dual from TPM.

IMO, the biggest mistake Lucas made was killing off Darth Maul - by far the most interesting villian of the new trilogy.

It would have been great if Anakin's fall to the dark side was mirrored by Obi Wan's rise through the jedi ranks, which would have culminated in one almighty face off with Darth Maul...followed by the small matter of a dark-side Anakin!

Count Dooko and Darth Sidious just weren't as interesting as Darth Maul...who at least looked like he could handle himself in a fight.

oh, actually the bit in ep3 where luke and leah are born at the same time as darth rises is pretty spine tingling for someone who saw the originals as a kid when they first came out. i 'm not a fan of the new star wars, but the 3rd wasn't that bad, probably better than ep6 anyways, too many muppets in that

oh, and how many construction workers did it take to build the death stars? no wonder you can't get a bloody plumber when you need one

    1) Han chasing the stormtroopers down the corridor in ANH, then the look on his face when they turn on him...both the special edition and original are good, although the number of stormtroopers changes

    2) Millenium falcon in the asteroid field in ESB, the music always sends a tingle down my spine!

    3) "As if millions of voices cried out in terror, and were suddenly silenced..." For the first 10 years I watched it I wondered in amazement how Obi-Wan could hear millions of oysters shouting...

The opening scene of ANH, with the ship going over camera that seems to go on forever, best opening scene of any film...ever.

    I too liked that.

I also really liked the first time the Imperial Walkers appeared in ESB.

As well as Luke and Vaders clash, also, the scene immediately after when Luke gets rescued from the underside of Cloud City in Empire.

Beautifully paced, haunting, and the music is just pure Williams magic. :smashin:

Erm....actually, saying that they messed it up badly for the Special Edition when they cut it to ribbons by unnecessarily showing Vader's journey to his Super Star Destroyer....like, we know he goes back to his ship, why do we need to slow the scene down by showing it???? :thumbsdow

Return of the Jedi - The left to right tracking shot of the Luke/Vader duel. Just after Vader finds out about Leia being his daughter.

    Excellent question/thread this one.

It really gets the brain working overtime. I agree with this one post though, a very powerful moment with a wondeful John Williams score.

Alot of the the duels in the new movies seem to be over to quick with the camera too close to the action for me.....this duel was top notch.

Its a shame the new movies have ruined the magic of the originals for me.......:(

This is also one of my favourites, and I agree with Scrapbook that the music makes it.

I also like the AT-ATs in ESB, the death star attack in ANH....

I almost want to change my mind....
But nothing for me beats the feeling of anticipation and excitement you get when the Fox fanfare plays and you get deafened by that wonderful blast of music when the words 'STAR WARS' appear (in my earlier post)

    Yep.

Think it has been mentioned in threads before about how the 20th Century Fox fanfare is Star Wars through and through.

The Dreamworks fishing thing is Saving Private Ryan for me (can't think of any more off the top of my head) but nothing will ever get close to the Star Wars/Fox connection.

Maybe im just a morbid soul, but i really like the scene when you see luke burning vader on the pyre(pire?). (the same scene that was sooooo well parodied in the first episode of Spaced series 2, when time Burns his star wars stuff due to his hatred of phantom menace)

Have to agree with Huwg - the opening sequence has me grinning like an idiot every time I see it!

I have always liked the scene with Han in the carbon freezer.
    "I love you".
    "I know"

Brilliant moment but I thought it was right to left  Oh well.

Strange as I type this listening to Virgin radio an add came on advertising ROS DVD.

And my favourite quote of that movie was played.

“You were the chosen one, you were supposed to destroy the Sith not join them”

Real emotion in Ewan McGregor’s voice :smashin:

    Can't decide between these 2

    A serious goosebumps moment

    Or

Appeals to the kid in me :D

Although I do like the bit in ANH where Luke is stood staring out across the desert and the suns are setting and the haunting music :smashin:

Ok.. mine is the scene, in a new hope, where luke walk's out of uncle lars house, and stands with one leg up on a rock. Then looks up to the sky and the two moons, with the fantastic Williams score building in the background. This is a really great movie moment.
I like many other scenes in all of the movies, but as i've got older this one, plus the music, just says Starwars to me.

AHHH.... 1977 a year that changed cinema for ever..
