Also check out the forums over at www.xbox-scene.com for reviews/user opinions on the various brands and models. I would tend not to look any further than Xecuter - they consistently seem to be producing the best chips, and have decent support in place for those "oops" moments ;)

    Just my 2p worth :)

Just bought the xecuter 2.3 lite from premodded.net (including console), haven't tried the hi-def yet as I am waiting for a hi-def cable from lik-sang.

If you get an Xecuter (which i've just ordered), get it from MrModChips he and baldbouncer are the only authorised dealers fior the chips in the uk, and mrmodchips seem to offer cheaper postage than baldbouncer.

Bit late, but I used www.premodded.com after seeing recommendations on here, and they were very good (note their prices don't include VAT, but do include postage). Premodded add loads of utilities for you, and if you upgrade your hard drive (which I'd recommend - putting your own games on the HD saves having to swap disks, and it's also usefull for copying dvds) they'll copy all your old saves to the new drive. And I'd recommend the Xenium or SmartXX chips (you don't have to manually switch the mod off for going live with these).
