Ok lets see who is who in the pure blues world, not some one like Hendrix or Stevie Ray.
Just to start off I would throw in
    Buddy Guy
    Eric Clapton
    Freddie King
and Of course my fav white boy, the bad boy of blues Jonny Winter.

Doug MacLeod - great mix of origional and cover works.
Keb Mo - Very modern, old fashioned blues man.
John Lee Hooker - get further than Boom Boom and the depth, subltey and emotion of his playing is amazing.

I favour the acustic over the electric but it all surpasses the drivel that passes as music today.

The reason I didn’t include SRV is that he didn’t play the classic blues style like Eric does, ie on sessions for Robert DVD Eric plays a classic style in many of the tracks.
When ever I sit down and watch a SRV Dvd I think to my self .. he must be the best.
I also have Gary Moores live at montreux 1990 and at the end of that gig I think to my self nobody plays with more passion than that boy does in that concert.
How ever Eric’s sessions for ...DVD shows a quality and respect for the blues that cannot be denied. some of the acoustic work with Doyle is outstanding
in the classic ,timeless, and pure sense of where the blues started from and what the blues are all about.
Here’s the real rub JUST what is the motivation behind the blues ..is it poverty or emotional poverty?
Does a pig rich bloke like Eric have the right to play Robert Johnson blues who was impoverished or has Eric earned the right to play from his heart because he has reaped the consequences of the bad decisions he has made in the past and been the recipient of great misfortune <his son > etc..
    Just what constitutes real blues?.

A vote here for Johnny Winter - who IMHO is a way better (white) Blues singer/guitarist than Clapton....
