Hello all, new to these forums. I'm after a bit of advice if you can.

I bought an Onkyo TX-SR507 (5.1) from amazon back in 2009 for £279. Last month I heard a pop from my mission speakers and then a burning smell from the back of the amp, it wouldn't turn on after that and the red stanby LED would just flash. It's knackered.

I'm now in the market for a brand new one with £450 to spend. As there are so many options out there I cannot seem to find a definative list of all the best amps doing the rounds at the moment.

Can anybody point me in the right direction of the best kit that's out today for around £450.

I have a 5.1 set up and am only worried about good sound quality.

    Thanks a lot :smashin:

Are you sure the speakers are not damaged or caused the amp to be damaged?
Probably the best receiver currently around for your budget would be the Denon 2312 from Richer Sounds.

I wouldn't of thought it was the speakers. The amp was at a low level when something seemed to burn out. I disconnected all the inputs including the speakers but the amp still wouldn't turn on.

I'll have a look at that Denon.

The Denon 2312 is a level above the 609 so would be the better buy IMHO. The 609 is comparable to the 1912. If looking at the 609 you should also look at the Yamaha 671.

The Denon 2312 sounds promising. I've had a look on Richer Sounds but can't seem to find it on there.

I might shoot over to Sevenoaks to see if they can do a deal if the sounds right. They've got on for £479
