Blockbuster's tell me they are getting a 'box set' of The Abyss in on Monday. Anybody know what this will be like?

Also, anyone know where I can get a copy of Platinum DVD or similar that will play on Region 2, for setting up my system?

    Cheers for any help.

It's a 2-disc set. The first disc has the theatrical and extended editions of the film. The second has a huge array of documentaries and other extras. Neither version of the film will contain the infamous drowning rat scene that were are not allowed to see in the UK.

It will almost certainly be ludicrously over-priced (I've heard £24-99 quoted).

It will almost certainly have the most goddawful video quality. A very very soft image lacking in any detail, and not 16x9 enhanced either.

If you'd like a copy of this film, I suggest you log on to www.ezydvd.com and order it from there. You'll get the same film, with the same the poor video quality, the same extras, but this time, you WILL get the drowning rat, and you'll only pay about £15 - delivered. Oh, and don't be discouraged by the fact that the disc is Region 4. It's region 2 as well. Honest.

Why don't you just get the far superior R1 version instead. It has everything and more!

Is this true coz I,ve checked Play who describe it as "widescreen" where as Future describe it as "enhanced for 16:9"
    Who's correct??

Well the region1 is most certainly a letterboxed non-anamorphic transfer(I have it I'm assuming there isn't a newer version). However its certainly not a bad transfer apart from its non-anamorphic nature. I would classify it as a damn good transfer as far as it goes.

In absence of any anamorphic version its probably the best you'll see it. It also includes the submerged rat sequence without censor rejigs.

Every version of the packaging incorrectly states Enhanced for Widescreen TVs.

NO Version of The Abyss is Anamorphic, not the R2, not the R4, and certainly not the R1.

R4 or R1 or mainland R2 is your best bet. Me? I have the R1 which is un-re-framed mouse and has ALL the extras. R2 and R4 are missing some.

Jenz said, "R4 or R1 or mainland R2 is your best bet." As an owner of the R2+4 version I'd say, go for R1 and forget any PAL transfer of this film. The video quality of the PAL transfer is absolute sh*te.
