Have been reading the threads and difficult times people have had in buying OLED TVs'.

OLED TV's seem to me to be the next step in replacing my 'old' Sony W8 LCD but after reading up, this Christmas the money is going elsewhere for now.

Having been 'that person' who had the first 42" plasma in our street (mates and neighbours round like it was the 1960s') I have sat quietly waiting for televisions to get better but it seems I have to wait a bit longer.

At least the money burning its way through my pocket can go onto something else.

    Ideas on a postcard...

I have a 2014 oled with no problems. You have to remember the people that post on forums about their problems are a minority. The vast majority aren’t having an issue.

Basically you need to have a bit of balance rather than just blindly following a few threads on a forum.

How can you be sure of that and then whats the point of forums if they dont inform?

Because a forum represents a tiny percentage of customers. Generally if you’re happy with your set, you don’t search the forums online. If you’re unhappy, you search for similar situations.

It’s the same with Trustpilot. If you look at JL on there, it’s tragic. You’d never shop there. However, as 99 out of 100 customers attest, the service is great.

Not to say there aren’t problems, just that a forum is a highly concentrated sample of likeminded people, not representative of the entire customer base - that’s the balance @swiftpete is talking about.

The tread title is a touch churlish- 99.9% of oled owners are perfectly satisfied with theirs. The near 5000 LG customers in the UK since October 1st would attest to that.

Near 6 month old C8 zero issues.

I've had my LG E6 OLED for two years and it is fantastic. Best TV and best value TV that I've ever had. I've not once regretted buying it. It is not perfect - very, very few things in this world are but it is very impressive with most stuff I watch.

3.5 year old EF9500, no problems. 2+ year old E6, no problem. OLED is better than plasma. My previous tv's were a Pioneer 5020 plasma and a Samsung 64F8500 plasma. They aren't even in the same ballpark. OLED by a country mile.

There is a guy on youtube with the menu from ant man and the wasp permanently burned into his ex-display Samsung Q8FN! So make sure you don’t buy an led either cos this must mean they are ALL dodgy too...!
See how this works? You simply can’t right off an entire technology because of the miss fortune/outright trolling of people on the internet.
As many, if not many more people have zero issues with their oled as people who do.

If you only bought stuff that NO ONE on the internet had ever had a bad experience with you’d litterally be Amish...

LG B7 65 inch = best tv I’ve ever owned (and I’ve had a few plasma/LCD/LED tv’s over the years)

Great picture, great functionality and stunning black levels - oh, and no burn.

Nope still looking but they are like hens teeth nowadays!
Me defending oled isn’t me saying lcd is sh*t btw, it has its place for sure, I still use my W829b for instance, it’s getting harder to justify lcd though when an LG B8 can be bought brand new for way less than any of the high end sammy and Sony led”s. (I don’t consider the XF90 high end and it’s garbage)

Having a Youtube loving kid worries me upgrading to OLED!

Can't justify the cost at the moment because it would only be for TV/Netflix as I have a dedicated room with projector for films.

Mrs does'nt want a large tv in the living room, but there is room for a 55inch in the kitchen lounge area.

They do inform. The thing you have to remember is you need to keep some perspective. If people have a problem they are usually more vocal. This is an enthusiasts forum that enthusiasts tend to be more particular about their kit, which is fair enough.

LCDs have as many issues as OLEDs. When the next big thing comes around, that won't be perfect either.

Thought you were a massive OLED fanboi  The 902 was a decent LCD by all accounts, I've had flagship LCDs in the past, none of those were as good as my 2 top end plasmas which in turn weren't as good as my E7. If my E7 develops burn or "wear"I'll just return it, there's not a battle with a retailer I haven't won yet. I'm known for kicking up a massive sh*tstorm

Well I have read forums for years. Whether it’s cars, TVs or whatever, the bulk of people that post on forums with problems are the people that are having problems, the ones that are working fine don’t bother and usually they’re the majority. I’m not saying that problems don’t exist but if you form your opinions on anything solely based on the people that have had issues and posted on forums, you’d never buy anything.

Oh I am bud don’t get it twisted lmao.
Oled destroys even the very best of led imo and they don’t even have the price excuse anymore! but I’ve always massively regretted not getting a C6 for 3D so I’m also on the look out for one of those or a 902.
I have 2 3D TVs But they are old and only 1080p soooo...

The TV forum is groundhog day year in year out with issues since at least 2010 when I became actively involved, only the model numbers change. Agreed people post when they're not happy and most don't post if they're happy so it's always a false sense of there being issues. Then again no doubt the vast majority just sit and stare at their bandy TVs in vivid mode and are none the wiser

So I’ve pretty much called it a day, anyone who buys anything on his or the other idiots recommendations deserves everything they get tbh.

It was a simple statement of fact, I'm not happy with OLED right now and may wait a while. I bought my plasma in 2003, it was a heavy, 400w monster that sat there quietly for 10 years without fuss but was useless when it came to blu-ray and any of the new HD content. It is still in use in a mates garage. The Sony W8 replaced it in around 2013 and at 66w came as a relief to the wallet and to the wall mount. I wanted to watch 4k information at the best possible quality without going daft size (my former employer being the first in the UK to demo the then gigantic Fujistu 70" Plasma panel) or spending too much.

Looking at the most recent posts and, wait for it, OTHER METHODS OF FINDING OUT INFORMATION I've decided to hang on a few months, I feel that OLED production is a bit rushed, that is all, if thats ok with you of course. If you cant deal with that, dont post on the thread
