    Hi

Thinking about buying a 19" (maybe 20") TFT/LCD screen. Questions:

1.The main game i play is FM2006 which obviously you stare at the screen for hours. Are TFT's easier on the eyes?

2.How do you know which screens are good? There is nowhere around me good enough that will have lots on display so i will be buying over the internet. I know the response time matters but also heard that different companies measure all their stats differently, so how do you know which are really good?

    3. Any good websites that review TFT's?

    4. I do play other games. What monitors do you recommend, what do you have?

    5. Anything else that may be useful to know when buying a TFT screen?

    Thanks for any help.

    Matt

The main thing with TFT's is there is no screen glare, making it alot easier on the eyes, then you have the space facter etc. Nowadays TFT's aren't the gamble they used to be for games. Buy a pretty well known brand and you *should* be fine. But at the end of the day, you get what you pay for.

With the distance selling laws you can return a screen wihtin a resonable amount of time usualy 7 days, it'll cost you for the return delivery but its perfectly legal, and probably the only way out of a dead pixel problem thats below warranty lvl.

In all honesty i've only seen one screen with dead pixels, and as people don't make a noise until they are unhappy it is blown totaly out of proportion.

Type super test or group test into google, with maybe a monitor your looking at or just 19 or 20" your sure to find many, I use trusted review and they have a selection of reviews although there may be a specialist website with every tft ever reviewed, just have to look for it.

Remember a tft give you extra actual screen size than a crt, so a 19inch TFT is equivalent to a 21inch crt screen. Often the resolutions are all the same, for example a 17inch monitor usualy has a res of 1280*1024 but a 19 or 20inch also have the same res, so you gain nothing desktop or application wise by going with the bigger screens, only the pixels are more spread out.

If you buy one from a good brand and get a decent finish you will usualy be in the middle ground price wise, you could also go for an excent finish or better ms performance. While the fore would give a noticible difference (you can see it) the latter reduced ms reponce time under 8 (i.e. something like 4 or 3 or even 2 now) are not gonna be noticible. Another thing is a screen 'tinting' technology like sonys x-black and a few other companies use them too, actualy does improve the contrast but can increase glare, not a problem as long as your in a light controllable enviroment.

    Got a IIyama Prolite E483s.

Cheap as chips and great for games. Highly recommened by me! Used for HL2 and BF2 extensivley. A good screen is easer on the eyes than a bad one/

I've had no problem with 3 weeks of intensive BF2. Although I can't play at the moment due to RSI! :rotfl:
