Not a fan of thrash metal then?
Not in the least. One of the few genres I don't give any attention to. It's nice to see some music steels coming out though.
Another for the music steels I'll probably not watch. Iron maiden, metal and anvil DVD steels join this and stone roses. I did watch the stereophonics though.
Price is insane too, double bluray and cd set only second to flash Gordon bluray wise to have a cd, 4th uk steel overall after withnail and i, la haine DVD steels.
I'm full of useless nerdy steelbook stats
I don't know how you've kept up your 100% collection of UK Steelbooks so far, especially when there are tonnes being announced every week. Just when you think they can't possibly squeeze another Steelbook into October, it happens and then I have to reorganise the UK Steelbook list
I guess this one is a little different as I don't think Nuclear Blast have released a Steelbook before. It's nice to see more concert Blu-rays get Steelbooks though. I don't know if I could buy a Steelbook like this one if I had zero interest in the music. I'm not a fan of Testament by any means, but I do like other similar bands so I could easily listen/watch this. Not so if it was the latest Justin Beaver concert
pitty Slayer or even sepultura ect do not do steels, nice
shows how little i know, i presumed this was a documentary about the roots of thrash metal, and it was simply called testament, not a concert by a group
it wont be a preorder item thats for sure, im happy to let it get released and wait for a price drop. its only exclusives and new releases that i preorder - things like this and arrow/eureka titles can wait a little while.
i think a justin beiber steelbook might be the end for me - that or any of that mrs browns boys crap.
I read this thread as Dark roots of trash
For those interested, this is £13.99 at Base.com, by far the cheapest price available at the moment:
CD : Testament - Dark Roots of Thrash (2 CD & Blu Ray) (Music CD) | base.com
It's G1 sized, thanks to Jason X at the German Blu-ray site for the pics:
oh dear. how they couldnt fit 3 discs into a regular steel i dont know.
im hoping that this is one of those german imports so it doesnt count as a uk release lol. anyone got the back j-card?
ive noticed the uk sites dont mention its a steelbook any more - have we been spared?
edit - ok having researched this i am 99% sure that this is NOT a UK steelbook, but a german import simply sold here.
nuclear blast are the music label also releasing this, and their online store (in english/german) shows there is 2 versions - the dvd steelbook and bluray steelbook, hence this being a g1 steel as such a small label wouldnt be able to afford g2 and g1 pressings, so some have a bluray and some a dvd inside.
also the front j-card is in english but has a german rating. id be incredibly surprised if the ones sold by the uk vendors had a uk rating.
also since there hasnt been any mention of a dvd steelbook anywhere, i can only presume the uk stores selling it have decided only to buy in the bluray version.
hope this clears things up - ages ago there was a uk dvd for manowar which many thought was a uk dvd steelbook, but it was a german import.
Will definitely be getting this, Love Testament
upon doing lots of research, it seems this is an import, simply sold in the uk. its in english completely, but the j-card has the german rating.
i think its safe to call this an import and take it off the UK steelbook list
now £12.99 but its an import so maybe that is why.
Technically all Steelbooks are imports since none are made here. As this is being sold through all of the major retailers, I think it belongs on the list.
Well yes but they all have bbfc ratings which makes them uk steelbooks and this has a German one so it can't be classed as a uk release. Just because it is sold here, amazon sell imports but they aren't classed as being uk releases.
the ''all steelbooks are imports'' is a pretty lame argument - why have a uk steelbook list at all then? why isnt it just a steelbook list? you added the human centipede eureka store exclusive because it had a bbfc rating. that is the criteria to be classed as a uk steelbook and so this fails that criteria. i notice that zavvi dont have a purchase link, so they dont sell it for that reason. also none of the sites now mention it is even a steelbook for some reason.
anyway that is my argument - its up to you what you do with the list.
Zavvi don't sell it because they don't sell music related items. As for the ratings, music Blu-rays are exempt from classification otherwise i'm pretty sure it would have UK ratings as well as German ratings.
fair enough but iron maiden en vivo got a dvd steelbook release and id say that was a uk release due to it having the uk E rating on the back.
its in the music section on other sites - id class it as a CD Steelbook with bonus Bluray and DVD since both versions are in the same Steelbook size. They do exist as a Queen Greatest Hits 3 CD edition is coming out in germany soon - so maybe it should be classified as such?
i was hoping a trip to HDN would help clarify things, but it didnt have any impartial people in there.
Manowar released a DVD steelbook years ago that only HMV sold - and it was a german import - it was never put on the UK list. Stereophonics -Rewind was sold here and that is included because again, it had the E rating.
To me no E rating = not british. I can tell you are a fan of this type of music etc - but sometimes you need to look at it from an impartial standpoint. Frankly at £12.99 its a cheap enough steel for me to buy but it would have to be a true british release to count.
Does its presence on this list really dictate your need to purchase it? If you don't believe that it is a UK release, then don't buy it
Why do you think it should be included? It's not just a uk release, it's the same steelbook sold in Germany, France, Italy, Spain, outer Mongolia probably. It's a European maybe even worldwide release. It's not ours
Btw I hate the new forums mobile version. I can't see what I'm typing sometimes, hence me having to edit this.
If it ain't broke.....
I think it's less about it being a uk edition and more about not wanting to delete it and change numbers on 100 other things. I wish others would chime in on this matter.
I was looking forward to a 'Best of WHAM' steelbook. I guess its a no go.
I have no problem with changing the numbers, it wouldn't take more than a couple of minutes. I just think that since Base and Sainsbury's are selling it who are UK only retailers, it deserves a place on this list.
Id say UK release - what other imports do Sainsburys and Base sell?
For a matter of fact who bloody cares
i know this is a few months late - but Base are infact based in Germany and Switzerland and sell many import Cds, which is what this is classified as.
As its the same g1 case for the dvd or bluray edition - and the fact the digipack cd sized edition mentioned includes a bonus dvd, it is in reality a CD Steelbook with bonus Bluray or DVD. So it isnt a Bluray Steelbook at all, its a CD Steelbook (they exist, Queen Greatest Hits is one). It is even sold as 2CD+DVD or 2CD+Bluray.
Also why dont sainsburys sell the DVD Steelbook edition? ah yes, because they didnt import it from Germany.
Case closed people
Because it sold out there? as it was definitely listed
Keep telling yourself.....
Steelbooks are made in Denmark anyway, so I guess that makes all of them imports. Amazon are based in Luxembourg and Zavvi are based in the Channel Islands, which further strengthens that point. I may aswell just delete the UK Steelbook list right now!
If you knew anything about the label that released the Steelbook, you would know that they produce one edition for each of their releaes which is sold across Europe. This something that most film distributors do aswell. It has German classifications because concert films are exempt from classification in the UK, therefore they don't need to produce a separate version for the UK. The reason I decided to add this to the list is because it is sold through UK retailers. Sainsbury's and Base don't sell imports, only stock which has been provided for UK distribution, just as it would be for any other Blu-ray Steelbook. This is definitely a Blu-ray Steelbook by the way. It is a Steelbook and contains a Blu-ray, hence 'Blu-ray Steelbook'.
I think we can draw a line under this now
bluray steelbook maybe, but its not a uk release, just sold here.
you can count it, but anyone with sense wont.
Anyone with sense doesn't really care
Replicant clearly hates thrash metal and doesn't want to have to buy it to keep up his 100% record with UK steelbooks. Snooloui is addicted to writing huge lists and feels compelled to keep adding titles. Case closed.
