Somone in the newsgroups said that R4 shows more of the frame in some scenes, but I can't confirm it. I do know that some versions have DTS (R2 UK, R4 AUS) wheras some versions do not (R1 US).

I got my R2 today and the DTS soundtrack is rather brilliant to my ears.

I've got the R3 version (cheap from CD Wow) and I have to say it's *THE BEST* DD soundtrack I have ever heard! I haven't heard the DTS soundtrack yet but I fail to see how it could be any improvement over the DD one! (Checkin' it out soon!).

According to a recent publication where Jonathan Mostow has been interviewed, he said yes there's going to be another T3 release with more extras. He also said that there won't be a directors cut of the film because the theatrical release was the directors cut - but in my opinion that still leaves it open for him to do an extended version that isn't a "directors cut" - just what is he hoping will sell a T3 ultimate edition if there wasn't an extended version?

I concur, absolutely superb picture quality and sound, they really are getting better and better at mastering dvds just lately - look at The Matrix Reloaded R2 and Lord of the Rings TT Extended R2, also superb quality picture.

I wondering whether Jonathan Mostow is going to reframe T3 for the Ultimate Edition at 1.85:1 so you'll be able to see more of the picture on a 16:9 screen? It was filmed in Super35 (Open Matt).

    Why would he?
The film has many great shots and that is due to the original framing of 2.35:1. If it was re-framed then it would destroy the original vision.

The DVD and the orginal film are framed differently even though they share the same aspect ratio.

    Really?

Is that why Enigma is 1.85:1 on DVD, but was 2.35:1 in the cinema?

Just watched the R2 version, they got the black level wrong on the transfer, way too dark, crushed blacks. :(

Black level is lower than normal - but I didn't notice any dark scenes that miss important detail. Perhaps it was director intended. It does have excellent resolution. I watched North by Northwest this evening (an old hitchcock film) it has the black level way too high but perhaps the print it was made from was like that. Black level on The Matrix Reloaded looks great. I am calibrated with Avia & DVE so the middle black bar on DVE is just visible.

More i think about it the more Terminator 3 reminded me of a Made for television film, i don't mean in the budget department i mean just the way the film is shot.
