I've had this on 3 HD releases, and frankly I'm not expecting much.

For whatever reason the PQ on all has been 'pretty good', but that's about it. To be honest, I doubt there's too much more that can be squeezed out of it.

Astonishingly, the BD of the first film looks better to me.

i agree theres not much they can do about the picture quality that we have now on blu, its like aliens, that was filmed with a grainy stocka nd i doubt that we will see that cleaned to perfection, infact doing that would spoil both films imo.

I would love to see a new proper release of this as the last one felt rushed and although the hd dvd did feature a very good soundtrack i was under awed with the pq.

I won't be buying it. I have had enough of buying it over and over. The current UK BD is excellent for PQ and AQ so will do for me. If anyone think that looks bad try the ITV2 showing of it at 23.40. It always looks so bad that even my VHS version is better.

Also, there is always possible that a US version will be region locked.

Well, I've owned 4 :D HD releases of T2 and the French HD DVD (got to have the theatrical edition!) is the pick of the bunch. I've never seen the movie look that pristine.

Van Ling has confirmed that no new transfer has been created, although the existing master will obviously get a new encode. Good enough for me.

T1 looks seriously shaky in comparison, but if anyone can spiff it up without sacrificing the 'look' of the flick it's Lowry.

As for this being the most milked movie, you folks ever heard of Anchor Bay? Their perennial re-releases of the Evil Dead movies put these periodic T2 double dips into some perspective. At least the T2 dips aren't all coming from the same ****ing company!

Besides, the current US Blu-ray - which was released at the very dawn of the format - is nearly 3 years old and is ripe for a replacement.

One more thing: T1 could well be beautifully restored, but if the original mono audio isn't included - or at the very least a more faithful 5.1 remix - then I'll gladly pass it by.

Van Ling says he pushed for the inclusion of mono audio on the Special Edition R1 DVD, and I can only hope that he's got such clout on the T1 re-release.

Wanting original mono tracks and getting it are another matter.Just look at the Bond releases, the US gets the mono tracks but we get shafted.

Seems to be a disappointing omission if you ask me.

    Still haven't read anywhere why.

The film was originally a 18 in the extended form but got lowered to a 15. The actual cover has 15 on both sides.

I have the Laserdisc to prove it was a 18.

And here's the BBFC entry for it:
TERMINATOR 2 JUDGMENT DAY rated 18 by the BBFC

The film was originally cut for UK cinema and video, but the Laserdisc was released uncut. This was very unusual actually, as the BBFC did not usually allow the same film to be released with two different ratings. Later on, the uncut film was re-rated as a 15.

You, also said that T2 was never rated a 18 when it was. It is not rated a 18 on that link. The review saids it is a 15 on the left side. You can't go by PR pics as they change all the time by the time the actual disc comes out.

I posted a thread about the certificate a while back, Amazon were showing an image of T2 as an 18 before the UK version was released
