    Hey all,

Does anyone know if there is a PVR that is compatible with Telewest?

    Thanks :)

Thanks for that. It would be nice if you could pause and rewind live tv with telewest. I'm surprised that there aren't loads of PVRs put there for cable as it does seem to be an increasingly popular way of watching tv.

It's also a closed market - only equipment that belongs to the cable company can be connected directly to their feed.
My Tivo takes the output from the cable box and re-encodes it to store to the hard drive.
TeleWest definitely have a hard disk recorder rolling out soon as I talked about it with the engineer who replaced my box recently - coming to N16 late this year apparently but he had no idea of price or features.

Many HDD-DVD machines will do what you want, and make DVDs to boot.

But the TeleWest program planner will only allow you to set reminders to change channel within the current listings - 1 day the last time I looked.
And they use non-standard infrared control mechanism (irda not ir) which makes external control harder.

    Tivo definitely works though :D

This is the Telewest PVR and remote due out this year. If you are on Telewest then I suggest you wait a bit longer before buying an alternative.

3 tuners allowing records of 3 channels at once and has HD ability, although no plan details released as yet by telewest

The Telewest box does sound interesting but as is usually the case with these things the release date could be put back to well into next year.

When contacting Telewest to arrange connection can you specify which box you want i.e. pace 1000, 2000, 4000, Scientific Atlanta DVB4000 or do they just bring one that they have the most of and want to get rid of? If you can specify which is the best box going?

Since Telewest is already installed at the house I presume Telewest wouldn't charge an installation fee? :nono:

    Cheers :)
