OK, so I probably know what you are all going to tell me, but please just tell me as it is.
Now I`m due to have cable installed soon,(Telewest) basically for the extra phone line, but for no extra cost I can have digital TV included. What I would like to know is am I doing right or should I go for Sky.
Is cable tv really that bad?
I don`t want all the extra channels just the basic package. I would like to know your experiences with cable?
Is picture quality good, what is the sound like, do you get pro-logic as you do with nicam etc etc.
    Any comments.

    Thanks

    Stuart

I'd advise you look at the forums on www.digitalspy.co.uk

This subject has been discussed many, many times there, although I don't think anyone found an answer, only bitching about "Sky's better than cable", "oh no Cables better than Sky"

    Hello (again) Stupot,

(I just junked my last post by mistake - I wonder if it will appear?) Anyway....

Telewest is fine if you just want a no-frills basic package. The picture is excellent and the sound is good quality stereo, so you can decode DPL off it. There are several disadvantages compared to Sky, and 1 or2 advatages. Whether any of these matter to you is up to you. The factors that will affect you are:

    1. The Telewest STB will not work with any of your existing remote controls. What a pain.

    2. There is no digital teletext.

    3. There is no timer in the programming quide.

    4. There is no Sky Premier Widescreen.

    5. The Sky Interactive services don't work.

    6. The Telewest interactive services are a joke.

    7. There is no digital output, and no prospect of any DD5.1 transmissions.

    8. Customer service hasn't yet been invented at Telewest. (Sky have invented it and decided not to bother.)

    9. You do get ITV1 and 2, and they are in anamorphic widescreen sometimes.

    Cheers,

    Chip.
