Anyone bought a multi-region DVD player from Techtronics and if so can you recommend them?
Oh I don't know - they managed to sort out SteveGreen's recent DVD Player problem .
bought a Pioneer modified DVD player last year-very happy with price and service
remember that their prices exclude VAT at 17.5%.
I've had dealings with them this week and i know some people have had horrendous times. I think if you use the 'live help' then you are ok, i emailed them a few times and they did reply after a while but i ended up phoning them to find a cure for my knackered multimod chip.
It only needed a full power down to fix the problem so there was not sending of players to be fixd etc etc.
I found Jess to be the most helpful
Having got a player from Techtronics that was clearly bodged/faulty,
I wouldn't recommend them to anyone.
I got my modded DVD player from them in 1999 and have had no problems.
Then again, it sounds like the issue with them is in the after sales area, which I can't comment on.
You pays your money, you takes your choice.
At Your Peril
I sent two dvd's to them for modifying.
They lost them.
Then they found them.
Then they modified them.
Then securicor (ther couriers lost them, then after about two weeks and hundreds of phonecalls found out that they had been sent to someone completely different.
Then I located them again as they had been returned to securicor.
Then securicor lost them again.
Then I located them at a securicor depot and picked them up. THEY WERE BOTH SMASHED TO BITS
TECTRONICS NOT INTERESTED !!!!!!!!!
DO NOT USE THEM

Bought a multiregion Sony 300 from Techtronics 14 months ago. It arrived in perfect condition five days later and have had no trouble with the player. But (isn't there always a but?) there was no Sony manual and no instructions on how to change the region code on the machine. I e-mailed and they sent me the instructions by return. Overall I'd rate them 8/10.
What did annoy me though was that they put their prices up £20 (10%) in December. Ho hum...
Hmmm....didn't realise I was going to stir such a hornets nest, so at the risk of doing it again what's the forum's views on multizonedvd.com?
My Dad bought a Pioneer system from them before Xmas. The only issue was that the remote was damaged. He sent it back and got a replacement, although it did take at least a week.
They were about the cheapest for that unit so he's happy. I had heard the stories, but here's a happy ending to balance things.
I seperately bought two items from them.
I the goods are working OK, you'll have no problem. I bought a DVD player from them and have since never had any problems.
Then I bought a plasma screen from them. It was faulty. 4 months later after trying to get my money back, I had to get my credit card company to take forcibly take payment from them and credit my account.
Bottom line is their customer service sucks. Save your sanity and go somewhere else.
Subsequent to my previous post my Dad's Pioneer has gone wrong. One speaker output not working. He now finds out that as a warranty repair he has to pay the postage, but I think that's down to Pioneer, not Techtronics. Luckily he has a spare player to keep him going.
Thanks all for your input on this. In the end I got the player from Richer Sounds as they finally got some in stock and I liked the idea of being able to visit their store in person if I did get a problem. Player arrived a couple of days after ordering and no probs since.
i brought my dvd player from techtronics never had a problem with them but i will say they are more expensive then other companies.
i'm looking to get another one a toshiba 220e multiregion techtronics price £166, richer sounds price £120 why is this? is the techtronics multiregion upgrade better than the richer sounds upgrade?
the techtronics upgrade plays RCE discs and has a VCR mode? would the richer sounds one do the same?
has anybody got any experice with richer sounds multiregion players? are they just as good if so i will save my self £46
From what I can gather they use exactly the same mod and you could even save yourself more money by getting the R2 model from RS then modding it yourself has its only a ROM update which you can get from this very forum, burn it to a CDR and then boot the Tosh with it and thats it.
