Wow what an amazing game. I have just been playing the Beta version and its great fun. Graphics are very nice and have a cartoonish feel. The different characters are very good and each has its own style which is amusing to watch.

I really like what I have seen so far. Superb fun.

You tease me Razor. I have this on preorder at Virgin and really don't know whether I can wait and may just have to preorder this on Steam for the beta...

I pre-ordered it last night. I am so glad I did, this game looks like great fun. I might find it hard to actually get any work done today.

Well, after selling out to Valve and letting them sell me any old gash for any price, I too am partaking in this Beta.

Undecided is the word I'd use at present. We'll have to see how the balance adjustments to the classes plays out and likewise for the changes made to the maps. Graphics wise I'm unsure whether I like or hate the cartoon graphics at the moment. Team Fortress and Team Fortress Classic were serious affairs (Yes they were!) and I'm not sure I like this deviation into cartoon action.

But why, why, why did they have to introduce delayed spawning? What is it with games these days that make producers go - 'let's make him wait for 10secs before he can play'?

On an aside I notice the game is the first to sport Valve's new Achievement system. But I'm not sure if that's a positive or negative.

God I'm turning into a whinging old man! :suicide:

    LMAO.... :rotfl:

I really like the graphics, it gives it a great cartoony feel. A comical feel so to speak. I also like cell shaded graphics so maybe thats why I like this so much.

I think the delayed respawn is good. If your taking a base over and you kill everyone it would be a bit unfair if they could just respawn straight away. At least with the delay it gives you time to take the base. I think this game will be fun with people you know. It also has a built in voice chat feature which is a good idea. :)

BTW I am glad you gave in and got the orange box. :)

I would be playing this game too if it worked. It wouldn't even fire up and just kept CTD with the comment that it was un-responding. Had a fiddle and managed to get it to fire up in window mode but it just locks up with a sound loop within a couple of minutes.
Only been in development for 9 years I suppose so what should I expect:rolleyes:
What I have seen seems quite impressive but It appears lots of people are having issues getting the game to work or it crashing/freezing.
Will try upddating my sound drivers and possibly roll back to cat 7.8's to see if this helps but not a good start tbh.:(

I really like it, but I suck big-time at actually playing it. Runs a dream (well ~30fps which I'm happy with) at 1900x1200 max everything (no AA) on my 7800gt / x2-4200, which happily suprised me.

I don't mind the respawn time so much, as it gives me a chance to work out how I screwed up and form my next plan of attack - compared to many of the games I play (RB6, CoD) it's far more manic, and although I used to play the original, I'm older and slower now :D

Anyway, overall very happy with the value for money of just this (even though I'm looking forward to portal as well) and think the graphics are just excellent.

(I should add, I had problems with the audio, but dropping it back to 'medium' quality seemed to stop the 'stuttering/looping' for me. YMMV)

Installed Adobe reader and it stopped Team Fortress from loading. Removed it and it started working again.

I have Acrobat Reader 6.0 installed and no problems running TF2. Not entirely sure what TF2 and Adobe would have in common TBH.

It is weird I know. Adobe Reader 8.0 was installed yesterday afternoon. After that TF2 kept on bombing out on boot up. I did 2 clean restarts and it was still the same. As this was the only thing I changed on my system was adobe I decided to remove it. Bingo TF2 worked fine after that.

    Very weird.

Has anyone else got this game? I would love to play a few games with members from here. Maybe we could set up a night of TF2 action. :)

From what I've seen, the cartoony nature of graphics should make the game more playable. Playing on the Quake Wars demo at the moment, it can get quite frustrating when you get killed as there is so much going on in-screen. Yes the game looks great but I wonder if it'd more playable if the graphics were simpler.

Haven't we already got one scheduled? My Steam account is telling me I have an appointment at 2000 tomorrow evening! Meet up in chat initially and then hope to a dedicated server. It might awhile of trying to get us all on the same server (they are all fairly packed at present) but it should workout.

I use my 360 headset on my pc. It works a treat. I cant get on with typing and playing at the same time.

If you have a premium 360 and wired pad or the wireless dongle for the pc then this will work fine. :)

Cheers for that Razor - I do have an Xbox 360 wired pad I tend to keep connected to the PC (it frightens the life out of me when it unexpectedly vibrates on the desk ingame).

Ok, 36hrs later what is everyone opinions on Team Fortress 2 then? I think it is slick - still not sure if I think it is good though.

Quite a few 'adjustments' have been made to the player classes. So far I have noticed the following:
    - The Pyros flame-thrower is much more powerful (but rockets and napalm are gone).
    - The Medic can now heal at some distance but no conc jumping.
    - The Scout can double jump and is now a serious threat up close due to a shotgun. The long range/low power nailgun is gone though.
    - Gun turrets are a real problem for non demo/heavy weapons classes. No more taking them out at long range with a nailgun.
The Sniper, Heavy Weapons Guy, Engineer and Demoman all seem much of a muchness with their TFC originals though. Anyone notice anything else major?

A few of the old favourite maps are back - including 2Fort and Well. Both have been given serious makeovers but you'll instantly know where to go. Not sure about some of the styling though - hay in 2Fort!?! And there are a fair few inaccessible rooms which I find are distracting more than anything.

Globally a few changes have been made. Armour no longer exists. Grenades are gone (at least I've not seen any yet). And, as discussed above, 'delayed spawing' has been introduced so they'll be no more frantic rush and grab fire-fights trying to get the flag back. On the subject of which 'flags' have been replaced by 'intel' (in 2Fort) and 'command points' (in Well). And capture points seem to be your flag/intel now. The interface provides a constant location guide as to yours and the enemies flag.

All in all I think this will be fun but not the enduring classic that TFC was.

Does the game have any keyboard commands for messages (like Quake Wars)? I don't currently have a mic connected.

If you have a wired pad it works straight away. The OS detects it and bingo. You might have to go into your sound options in control panel and set

    Playback - Speakers

    Recording - 360 Mic

    Very simple to do. :)

If not then a wireless dongle for the wireless pad.

Yes - once released (9 October) it will be available for purchase for US$30 - a grossly over-inflated price to encourage you to buy the 'Orange Pack' now for US$44
