Hi everyone,
I returned from holiday to find my lovely Teac AG-H300 has expired. I've established the transformer works fine, and there's power to the switch, so the issue is clearly deeper and electronics related. I'm not inclined to investigate further (at least not right now!).
It's demise has left me in a bit of a spot....
I immediately thought about sourcing another used amp, perhaps another Teac or a similar-looking (but functionally different) Onkyo 725. However, a quick search through popular online auction sites show they're a bit few and far between, and I cant guarantee another won't go pop. So that go me thinking it could me an opportunity to upgrade to something newer.
Space restrictions rule out full-size amps as a replacement (like the Onkyo A-9010) so I need a recommendation for a physically small replacement amp. I'm not sure what 'size' the Teac falls under these days - it's about ten years since I actually paid much attention to HiFi tech, but the Teac is 215mm wide by 270mm deep, which is about half the width of a standard unit. The height isn't as critical.
I've looked around, and the main snag i'm coming across is the lack of inputs on smaller units these days. I've been running a Technics SL-150 turntable through the Teac, so I need either a phono input or at least two aux inputs to allow me to also run my Echo through the same amp. I have a pair of Gale Gold Monitor 6ohm speakers. The AG-H300 was an 85w amp with 8-16ohm rating for the speakers (apologies if the terms aren't used accurately, i'm just trying to provide info!).
I wouldn't class myself as a true audiophile, but I can tell the difference between my old Teac and my brother's A-H300 (which was much warmer and nicer in my opinion).
To that end, could someone offer me some ideas as to what I could be looking at? Ideally id like to budget no more than £300.
Cheers
Mike
