A pair of TDL RTL3 speakers in 'Rosewood' in very good, original condition.
One speaker, the right, has a small dent in the back edge, pictured.

I have owned these from new and I'm only selling them because I need to go to a slicker room layout.

I've never had to replace any drivers or anything else, and they still sound as good as new.
I don't have any boxes big enough to courier them so collection is essential, though I could meet half-way. I'm in the Oxford area.

I'm looking for £140 or make me an offer. If there is no interest within a few weeks there seems to be some mileage in breaking them up and selling the various drivers and X-Over separately, but I'm loathe to do this as they are still rather nice :)

    Price and currency: £140
Delivery: Goods must be exchanged in person
Payment method: Cash, Card or Paypal
    Location: Radley/Oxfordshire
    Advertised elsewhere?: Not advertised elsewhere
Prefer goods collected?: I prefer the goods to be collected

Hi. I assume these are still available? If so, how do they sound?

I have owned a pair of these for many years and really like them - only thing to watch out for is that depending on the characteristics of the rest of your system the can sound a little bright - a big plus is that they have really good and quite well controlled bass - in fact I've only updated fairly recently by adding a smallish subwoofer.

There is a pretty straightforward and cheap tweak/upgrade to the crossover that you can do to tame the tweeters if you do find them too bright in your system.

    Yes, they are still available.
Agree as above, but the treble didn’t bother me. I was and always have been impressed with the well controlled bass.

Hi. I am concerned about them working when I get them as I have never bought second hand speakers and nothing used from so far away that there is no comeback or demo.

    How does that work?

Also you said you can meet half way. I live West of Wolverhampton, so is that still okay if we agree a price?

I will meet half-way, but clearly the further I have to travel the less manoeuvrability there would be on price.

Obviously if we are meeting at a service station, or whatever, then a mains operated demo is most likely out of the question. I’ll see what I can do as regards a battery driven demo.

In any case I’m away on holiday for two weeks so 2nd week of Sept is probably the earliest practicable.

Still available, but FunkiestMonkey showed interest first so I should let him make first offer.

Okay sure. If it falls through I'll offer 120 and can pick up whenever suits.

    Thanks.

    OK kelv0n I'll accept £120.
We need to move to exchanging addresses & etc, but first I should say I haven't been able to find the spikes. They were pretty crap and haven't used them. I thought I knew were I'd put them but no.
If still OK lets exchange details inc landlines numbers and etc.

Okay. Full disclosure. I know what they sound like from experience in someone else's house and system from many years ago. I remember the deep yet controlled bass. And their weight. And size.
But my recollection is vague. So a view from a more modern set up and listener will be interesting.

Aside: my speakers are no slouches. I was just missing the integration between my 2 subs and the the other 11 speakers. Especially for music. Hooking my main speakers to the external stereo amp and re running Audyssey did the trick.

OK - kelv0n has now heard a brief demo and taken them away - so they are now officially sold,
.... and what a nice chap he is.

I am using a Yamaha RX-A2080, on the second zone, i.e. with no other speakers or sub engaged.

True, but I do with my replacement system. I just made sure the demo was the TDLs only.

I know what you mean but it really was a bit of an eye (or should that be ear?) opener for me when I finally added a modest dedicated sub to my setup

Hey all. I picked up a Pioneer SXN30 amp to drive the speakers. This is essentially a rebadge of the Onkyo TX8160.

The speakers sound absolutely brilliant. I was surprised though by the difference in sound between my place and amgard's where they were demoed. My place is a barn conversion with 4m ceilings and a huge open hardwood floor space (10m x 6m). The sound fills this quite nicely. Listening position is about 2.5m away with a large heavy rug to help tame the reflections a bit.

The bass on these in this environment was still very present but not as in your face as when demoed in a much smaller, carpeted room. The soundstage improved substantially too. Mid/High range was fantastic which is good as I had heard various comments about it being harsh or thrashy.

I've only just moved over from Australia so this is my new setup to see me through the next few years.

Let me know if there's anything specific you'd like to know.

    Sounds good. Literally.
I remember this track on a funk album called stepping stones that starts with really fast African style drumsand someaggressive flute and other instruments build to a crescendous opening. I have tried to recreate the excitement that thw tdl speakers gave this track but to no avail.
That is it actually. The tdl speakers as i recall were not the best imaging or revealing but boy were they great to liaten to. He had a decent Sony receiver as i recall.
