    Yes.

It depends upon what frame of mind you're in when you watch it. If you're feeling depressed then this is not a film to watch to cheer yourself up but this IS a fantastic piece of cinema that should be watched by virtually everyone.

I don't want to tell you that this is a fantastic film and then for you to watch it and then think"lovemunkey must be smoking crack to thaink that taht was any good", as has happened with a couple of other people I know.

it does kind of depend what you regard as a "good" movie. if you're into modern flash bang action movies, you'll probably hate it. if you don't mind thinking for yourself a little, and haven't been desensitised enough that you can still be disturbed by uncomfortable themes and images, then it's a hell of a movie.

Oh God yes!!! (to both questions)

One of the great American movies, from the era when lots of movies were actually made for grown-ups. Watch it at once!!!

Anyone that doesn't rate this movie deserves to have their home cinema gear burnt and their families sold for medical experiments. No question! :D

(Cue string of posts from people that didn't like the movie... :suicide: The significance of the smiley will not be lost on fans of this film.)

Taxi Driver is the sort of movie that stays with you forever. Every aspect of the movie is simply breathtaking. Buy it, then go out and buy the soundtrack. It stands by itself as a wonderfully evocative piece of music.

Basil Brush did a spoof of this scene with one of the guys out of The Fast Show. It's brilliant and cracks me up every time I watch it (I saved it on disc)
    :D :D

Back on topic - Yes, Taxi Driver is a "must see" movie

Scorcese is the guy in the taxi stalking. Jodie Forster is in it and is very young, and Harvey Keitel as well. So you've got to watch this movie even if you don't like it. It's part of our universal inheritance.

Phew  Thank goodness I like this movie. My gear is safe for the time being :) What I also love about this movie is the music, especially the title music. It was composed by Bernard Herrmann of Alfred Hitchcock fame and the cd is well worth picking up if you enjoy the movie.

Also not to be confused with the 1954 film, Taxi Driver, about a taxi driver in Mumbai. Memorable for some songs by Talat mehamood and Lata, the imdb says it's a must see for any Dev Anand fan.

Yes, the soundtrack is a gem. Unfortunately it was Herrmann's last as he died shortly after completing out.

Just finished watching this tonight after being spurred on by this thread. Forgot how good the doco on the DVD was too - superb! :smashin:

Isnt it a shame scorcese has gone in search of oscars instead of making films people love to watch regardless of what oscar critics think.
