I was wondering the other day how many women have tattoo's? So does your other half (yes smelly that includes you :smashin: ) have a tattoo.

Mrs D has a small japanese symbol (verified by someone japanese) at the base of her spine.

    how many others do?

Nope no tat sorry. Have considered a small design either on shoulder, base of spine or ankle but never had the guts to go through with it.

Also worried about the fact that its pretty permanant. What seems like a good idea now might not if I ever make it to 60+!!!!!!

Although there is always the possibility that one night after a few two many beers it will seem like a good idea :D

Amusingly, Roger's Profanisaurus has been updated and includes an entry with words to the effect:

Tramp Stamp - a tattoo usually found on the lower back of a (usually chubby) woman indicative of her social class despite aspirations

Not sure I entirely agree especially as my better half has such body art and responded angrily when I quoted the above!

Tattoos bad full stop, but especially on the ankle or, even worse, on the foot...

...and what is it with women who get their boobs tattooed ? Mother Nature gives you something perfect - only for you to go and draw all over them - rubbish...

personally I find them very off putting. A small one in a discreet place can be ok but otherwise it's a big no no for me.

My partner does not have one, she's thought about it but never went through with it. I've nothing against them, they can look quite good in the right place.

I think when you're wrinkerly an old it might be something you look back on and smile. All classes have tattoos i'd say it was more a middle class rebellion stamp then a working class one, one in the eye for mummy and daddy.

Slightly :offtopic: I've got a tattoo on my arm - the main purpose of which was to wind my dad up. i think tattoos in moderation are ok. but people covered in them that a different matter. if i worried about what would happen when i'm old i wouldn't do anything. after all skin looks great when your 20 but when you 80  - so lets not have any skin.

My brother's got a celtic cross on one arm and celtic band on the other. He's got pretty big arms, i've seen some noodle armed people with them, i don't know what they were thinking.

Interesting. I have read a great book on the science of tattoo and it seemed to summarise that a lot of people get them when at a low eb, when down or if esteem is low. It is the ultimate act of violation to ones self, according to the book.

I call it art and ramming a nail through ones cock has to be worse  :D

When my mate had the one it had nothing to do with being at a low eb, he was tripping his box off:laugh:. We'd spent the hole night doing stupid things and made our minds up we were going to have a tat, walked to town to the famous rambo's and i bottled it. He went through with it, the tattoo was the head of Frankenstein's monster with a spliff in it's mouth with "stoned again" under it.

Ended up hating it and it was on his lower arm so hard to cover at times. He's since had a celtic tat put over it but it's had to be so thick to to cover it that it's looks a mess.

I'mnot a big fan of them on women at all, but my missus has two of them. One above one of her bum cheeks and the other on back of one of her shoulders. She doesn't like the one on the shoulder though (Doh!). Every now and then she thinks about getting another or having the one on the shoulder covered over, but I cringe and walk away so she has got the message...

One of my ex's had a tattoo on one hip which was relatively ok but she went on holiday to Australia and came back with a tattoo of a black widow spider on her foot! She knew I HATE spiders and knew I was worried because she wanted to emigrate to Australia and I couldn't get the right visa to emigrate so I was worried we would break up over it... In fact, the tattoo was pretty much a MASSIVE sign to me that we were breaking up and 3 quaters of a year later we broke up and she emigrated to Oz! (Where I hope she is miserable and unhappy and has really bad luck! Mwa ha ha ha!!!)

Either men or women, tats are ok, but only if for the right reason, 'I LUV SNOOPY' just doesn’t cut it, as it's permanent, if it's a tat of something meaningful, and that'll be so, till you are no more, then fair enough, BTW, I don't, nor does my other half, have any.

I have to say they do nothing for me,but this made me chuckle, especially Tom Leppard having everywhere but between his toes and inside his ears tattooed with a leopard skin tattoo

    http://www.people.umass.edu/aes1/statistics.html

I thought I was in the majority, but on holiday recently,in a nice hotel,it seemed everyone had one.Perhaps I'm getting old too.

My ex-partner got a bow at the base of her spine done after she left her husband, so I can see where the self-esteem bit comes in ... the tat looked really good ... helped by the fact that she was fit (both in the physical and visual sense) !!

I remember being on holiday in France a few years back- there was an old chap wearing a pair of shorts but no top fishing- he lifted his arm to cast........ and revealed his blood group tatoo'd in the armpit. He got a funny look and no mistake.

Tat's on women? The Mrs doesn't bother but I'm sure the right design on the right person could look OK.

Uh huh................. :D I had mine done when I was a bored teenager, pure and simple. Would get more, but after the AID's thing and the risk with needles I went off the idea.

As for women with tat's, I'm not all that fussed either way. The odd small tattoo looks fine, but large tattoos look ugly on a womens frame. The only way they don't is if the women is large enough, in which case..............

I can see Garrets point in that he hates them full stop, but if it's all right for me then I can't really stop the other half can I? ;)
