Tarantino's - Django Unchained

Quentin Tarantino's upcoming film, Django Unchained, where he will put his stamp on the spaghetti Western genre. The script was just finished a few days ago, and is being pursued by studios, with Universal International (Inglourious Basterds) getting first look.

A source at Indie Wire now claims to have read the script and has offered the following;

Django is a freed slave, who, under the tutelage of a German bounty hunter (played by Christopher Waltz the evil Nazi officer in Inglorious Basterds) becomes a bad-ass bounty hunter himself, and after assisting Waltz in taking down some bad guys for profit, is helped by Waltz in tracking down his slave wife and liberating her from an evil plantation owner. And that doesn’t even half begin to cover it! This film deals with racism as I’ve rarely seen it handled in a Hollywood film. While it’s 100 percent pure popcorn and revenge flick, it is pure genius in the way it takes on the evil slave owning south. Think of what he did with the Nazis in Inglorious and you’ll get a sense of what he’s doing with slave owners and slave overseers in this one.”

The title is a reference to Sergio Corbucci’s 1966 Spaghetti Western Django, which starred Franco Nero in the title role. Nero himself said in an interview last year that he’s working on a Spaghetti Western with Tarantino. Shortly after, AICN confirmed the genre through its own sources, as well as Waltz’s involvement as “one of the stars.” The 1966 Corbucci original is considered a classic among fans of Spaghetti Westerns

Tarantino is one director who I can trust to make a good movie.

Will Smith has appeared as the frontrunner for the lead role of Django, a freed slave who seeks to reunite with his slave wife, according to reports the actor is favoured by Taratino.

Christoph Waltz is being lined up as the bounty hunter who ends up training Django and helping him seek his wife. Samuel L. Jackson would play the house slave to the bad guy, Monsieur Calvin Candie. No actors have yet been officially cast.

But Travolta post look who's talking was an unlikely casting choice and look how that turned out. I would love to see Will Smith under the direction of Tarantino.. Very interesting.

That thinking could be Tarantino's downfall though. He might have the feeling that he can work with anyone after all of his successes, and sooner, or later he will pick the wrong actor due to over-confidence.

Wow, Will Smith huh...not someone I would have guessed but you never know.

I to am a great fan of inglorious and Christoph Waltz in particular. He certainly made the film for me anyway.

A Tarantino Spaghetti Western, it's gonna be great and can't get here soon enough!!!

It is just going to draw the obvious comparisons to Wild Wild West though...Lets hope QT can do enough to get that out of people's minds...

The Weinstein Co. has set a Christmas Day 2012 release date for Django Unchained.

Latest on the casting for the title role of Django, seems Will Smith is no longer interested, so actors Jamie Foxx, Idris Elba and Chris Tucker are in the frame.

Leonardo DiCaprio is said to have signed on for the role of villain Calvin Candie, the slave plantation owner, joining Christoph Waltz and Samuel L. Jackson.

He appeared in Quentin's Jackie Brown, hence why he might be up for the role, not the most welcomed choice by most i think

Nah, me either.. Not a great fan of Jamie Foxx either!

I've been waiting for a long time for someone to step up to the plate and have the balls to at least try a Spaghetti Western style movie in the modern era, which hasn't been attempted properly for quite some time. Be very interesting to see Tarantino's film making style injected into this and am hoping somewhat that he keeps the feel of it closer to Leone's old classic westerns.

DiCaprio's casting gets my vote 100%. :smashin:

So it appears Jamie Foxx has been chosen as the act as Django and Leonardo Di Caprio as Calvin Candie.

I must say yet again Will Smith never fails to surprise me. There were strong rumours that he turned down the role as Django as he was concerned about his public image. Public image? Is he an actor or a politician? He has confessed to making an error in declining the opportunity to play Neo in the Matrix, I am just waiting for the excuses to come around this time. Someone like him should really try and push boundaries in terms of the characters he chooses to portray. Playing it safe all the time is getting tiresome.

Will Smith's name is usually enough for me to reach for the change channel button. Thought he was a terrible choice for the lead in i am legend, much like the choice to have 'zombies' or whatever the hell they are instead of vampires in that film. Pleased to see he won't be in this.

Serious? I though Smith was brilliant in it. Spoiler
The emotion he shows on his face when he has to strangle his dog is incredible.
I'm not a Jamie Foxx fan so already this movie is a 50/50 for me. Hopefully Leo (Most likely) will steal the show.
