    Hi
I have been looking for some time for a small sub about 1 cubic foot to add to my av system. i want something with loads of power, low response but small, i know it is difficult getting good response from small box but i have seen these:
    Tannoy TS10
    XLS200
    MJ Acoustics Pro 50
    Vibe Alpha 1
    Mordaunt Short MS309

I like the XLS200 but it hasnt had a very good write up recently on here, saying its slow. Im sorry im asking this again but the last time i asked i did not get a good response.

    James,

I'm the one who thinks the XLS may be "slow" in my room but as you know I still havn't proved whether the room is to blame.

Bear in mind that I am the only one to complain out of maybe 20-30 XLS owners on the forums, (this is pure guess, could be in the hundreds ??).

Even if there are only 20 owners that still means that 95% of them are happy with their sub. That's a pretty good hit rate.

I wouldn't discount it on the basis of my post, and even if you ordered one and didn't like it - you could get a full refund.

I can happily recommend the MS309. I was tempted by the XLS200 and if anyone want to bring there xls200 arround to my place to try it against the 309 they are more than welcome ;)

Have a look at the KEF PSW2500 as well, it is larger than the MS309, and the shape is oval rather than cubed, but it sounds fantastic.

It can be had from PRC Direct for a bargain £239 as well!!!! RRP is £349!! And everywhere else is selling it for £349 without much discount. I did manage to get mine for £239 from Technosound after they price matched with PRC.

It's the next level up from the MS309/Rel Quake size subs, and is very musical to boot, the oval design helps its acoustics with music. It even has a music mode switch at the back that improves things further. Great little sub.

The MS309 is a belter too though, and a bargain sub for the money.

I'm immensely happy with my XLS200 - I can assure you that it won't be a disappointment. I'd be surprised if you were unhappy with any of the models you've listed though.

DFour, I'm 40 minutes from Bracknell so we might be able to arrange a head-to-head sometime ;)

Interesting, I could bring down my KEF PSW2500 as well, (and the Eltax Sub-10 to get a good thrashing too). Have a four way shoot out.

    I'm about 45mins from Bracknell

Keep me in the loop if you guys set a date for the comparison :D

Sounds like it might be good. I've got a PDR-10 lying around as well that we could test and the sub from my Logitech Z-560 set which I think might compare favourably. That's before we start testing sub cables!

With enough pre-outs we could have 7.7 surround sound :rotfl:

No particular reason why I can't at some stage although I would be more interested in bringing a 409 along to compare against Kazman's KEF as the two will be keen rivals...........

Two or three weeks is fine with me :D

Listening to the 409 would be a great too, I love these forums :D

Don't know about lugging the SR7400 over though, its a bit of a beastie, and my new car only has limited bootspace, Three subs is probably squeezing it :)

Let's set a date, I suggest June 19th, how does this sound to everyone? I'm getting goosebumps just thinking about this match up :D

June 19th should be OK for me. I always wondered what the middle rear seatbelt was for, now I know it's for securing consumer electronics :)

Provisionally looks clear for me (of course I will need to check with the supreme domestic authority) although its possibly a bit early to have a 409 go along- we only have one of the blighters at the moment- I guess if all else fails a 909 would be a reasonable substitute.

How much difference is there between the 309, 409 and 909 tons?? I'm assuming the 409 is a 309 on steroids :smashin:
Saterday the 19 June provisionally good to me. I must also consult 'the powers that be' first :nono:

All we need now is a SVS owner to show us all the error of our ways  :lesson:

909 and 309 are scale versions of one another- the 409 has a 309 driver but other than that it is completely different- I've just loosely described it in the budget subwoofers thread.

Yeah I just read it lol Sounds like the march of progress goes on. It sounds like it has some good new features thet will really help with intergration. It should fly off the shelves like the 309

Right, shall we cement the 19th then?

If you can all pm me with your email addresses, we can take this offline and organise it that way. Then post back in a new thread with the results :) :) :D

Forgot I don't have TOF's contact details yet, so thought I'd wait till I get his before sending out any mails.

If he hasn't pm'd me by tomorrow afternoon, I'll buzz him on the old dog and bone. :) Mid-day till 4pm sounds fine to me :)
