It is amazing how often the questions you need answering have been asked before

I too am interested in the Tannoys after reading about the Missions (M73i - £138, M7c2 - £110, M70 - £76). So am looking for opinions on both. I have listened to the M73i's which sound great, which also happened to be through a Yamaha RXV630.

I used to have some Tannoy Mercury speakers all around. Very good performance for the money though the craftmanship left a bit to be desired. That may have been improved on the new Mx models, not sure though.
Even without a subwoofer the bass/LFE was pretty impressive thanks to the M3s at the front.
I upgraded later to something better looking ;) but the main reason was that they couldn't go as loud as I wanted them, i.e. they were not a perfect match for my amp (which is rather powerful).

So my conclusion is that Tannoy speakers can deliver but as usuall you must listen to them yourself first.

If you can afford an extra £200 - £300 and can get away with cherry finish, then the Revolutions are a better bet.

Good prices and service for Tannoy from Peter Tyson.

However I have to say that I have just ditched my Tannoys in favout of Kef Qs

Like Reiner I also had the Tannoy M3 range but I didn't see any problems with the finish. I think that this package represents exceptional value at only £370 which anyone would be hard put to beat in terms of sound per pound.

I bough the Tannoy R2's for £180 about a year back... they sound great.

They also go very low for a couple of 5" drivers
