Hiya all. I'm looking into getting a set of Tannoy 613's. I currently have some B&W 602.5's which I'm going to sell, They just aren't as good as i'd hoped. Plus i've got a little person who will be destroying anything he touches soon, so i'm thinking of some older/cheaper alternatives to the B&W's. My previous fav's were a pair of Tannoy 603's, so i'd like to know how the 613's compare ? Experiances / opinions very welcome Cheers
I have a pair of Tannoy 609 Mk2s in my surround system which perform well. If you haven't seen what the speakers look like, then they have hexagonal top/bottom panels, and a main dual concentric (similar to KEF Q range) driver. The 613s are floor standing and being near the top of the range will have at least one additional bass driver. They date back to the late 80s/early 90s and work well with good amplification.
Thanks Mudan, Yeah, i've got a set of 603's that would be ideal for rear duties replacing the tannoy mxr's that are there at the mo. I love the look of the Tannoy six range. The shape, finish, and build quality are IMHO superior to my B&W 602.5's. I'll be driving them with my new Rotel 1075 so i'm hopeing for good results. I've pretty much convinced myself to get the 613's just looking for some reasurance. Thanks again
I used 609's and 603's in my old Pro-Logic setup but since going for DD5.1 and DTS i bought Revolution R3's and a Revolution centre allowing me to use my 609's for surround and 603's for surround back. The Sixes series fit in well with the Revolutions.
I've currently got a pair of 609 mkII which sound lovely. Unfortunatley they have a low WAF so they are going to have to go. Favourite on the list so far is a pair of Quad 21L's which sounded lovely in the shop.
I owned the 611's ( dual concentric + bass driver ) the 613 have another drive unit I think. The range was very efficient, 91 dB w/m from memory but the load was current hungry, if over driven the bass was flabby but I liked there sound, imaging spot on and the base could be, and was mass loaded, this tightened things up a bit. Driven by 2 stereo amps and bi amped, they were great and i now wish I'd kept them. The foot print was small and thay weren't that stable, I added an extra steel wider plate Im sure the 13's would be similar, but with more LF. Matt
Now i'm really p***ed off ! I've just phoned the shop that had these in. They've already sold them for £99. Bugger
