Anyone know of any music-only "audiophile" universal CD players? I.e. plays CD, SACD, DVD-Audio. Seems like they all have video too... I use an HTPC so I have no need for DVD video playback. I'd just feel really "wrong" about spending lots of money on a player whose primary function I wouldn't even use!

    Cheers,

    Dunc

If by audiophile you also mean expensive, then Linn's Unidisk player should suit just fine.....about £6K if I remember, but the local shops havent got one for a demo yet so I have no idea of sound quality...it incorporates a lot of the CD12's ideas should I would imagine sound quality should be very good.

Hehe, I didn't mean "audiophile" that way (though I'm not surprised that's how it looked! :p) I just meant designed for pure audio use, and maximum audio quality.

I see your point,duncan.....the problem with the word audiophile is it often implies the price tag to match......seriously though,at present, the only truly "universal" disc player without video that I can think of is the Linn, although I think we should see Pioneer being able to bring out something along those lines if we're lucky.

Ideally,an audiophile grade 24/192 soundcard for the HTPC would be nice if one existed.

Well, yeah, except it still wouldn't manage SACD... :( Really don't think I could manage the Linn any time in the remotely forseeable future. *sigh* Just have to keep waiting before jumping on the high res audio bandwagon...

It does indeed, but still firmly pitched at the high end audio market...still a pity about the price!

Well, video can be part of the DVD-A content of a disc and navigation of these titles is _almost impossible_ without the screen so I would say is is essential.

Plus you've got all the setup of the machine as far as dB level adjustments for all speakers, time alignment for all speakers, whether to play the cd/sacd 2chnl/sacd 5chnl section of discs etc etc etc
