Tall boy 5.1 system blu-ray system advice

Hi guys,

I'm very new to the whole sound system thing, having just bought an Auna that didn't work with my blu-ray player we've decided to get an all-in-one since that way it should all work and our old player we can stick in the bedroom.

I wouldn't mind some advice to be sure I'm buying the right thing this time. Basically we want a blu-ray system with tallboy speakers (I really like the look and with our set up they'll fit easily behind the sofa, wall mounting satellites would be a pain). An iPod dock is a nice bonus, doesn't really need to be 3D since we don't have a 3D TV, but it can't hurt since it means more options in the future.

I don't think my TV has ARC, but you never know I might get one that has in the future. I watch alot of digital media from a media PC so surround sound output from other sources would be great.

I should also say I've looked at virtual surround sound systems and having tried them out in store (in a small room) I'm not very convinced by them, so don't see that as an option.

Sub £400 would be great, but can push that for the right system.

I've found the following that seems to tick all the boxes, anyone have any experience with it?

Panasonic SC-BTT755EBK Full HD 3D Blu-ray Disk Home: Amazon.co.uk: Electronics

Alternatively anyone got any better systems they could suggest?

Very grateful for any advice received, hoping not to get burnt by a bad system twice in a row.

Hi,

I have the Sony BDV E870. It's a 5.1 home cinema system and the front speakers are tall boys. I paid £299 over the Christmas period and am very happy with the picture and sound quality.

Its the rear speakers that need to be tallboys more than the front.

Not sure if you can use the fronts as rears.. They are physically a different size when removed from the stands. I'm sure I've seen a thread in the past on AV Forums regarding this.

Yes I did, and so far, so good. We're about to move house so most DVDs packed away so not been able to do a full test.

The multi channel option works great for none surround sound media and the USB port is great for digital media.

The speakers don't look at great as I had hoped, but the sound is great.

So far, so good, will add a review on Amazon once I'd have more time to test.

Well, I've not got a 3D or AVR TV so those features are currently wasted, but for the price I was happy and means if I upgrade my TV the system doesn't need upgrading with it.
