Just wondering how many of you have one of these fitted, I know I remember reading here ages ago that at least one person here had gone for it?

    http://www.talismoon.com/cgi-bin/version2/engine.pl?page=product-xbox360-whisperfan-blue

Now that my warrenty has expired I'm very tempted to go for one of these, from the linked reviews on that site it sounds like a very good cooling upgrade & as it's now getting extremely hot out here in Argie, the cooler I can get my 360 the better!

The thing is I'm pretty clueless as fitting this type of thing so would like to get opinions from anyone who has bitten the bullet & changed the fan as to how simple it is? I did change my Gamecube case over to a crystal one a year ago so hopefully it won't be any worst than that?

    Any thoughts or advise appreciated:smashin:

Ive just ordered one off ebay (only £15 incl del) my 360 is in bits awaiting its arrival. Its very easy to do, just follow one of the many google found instructions. One thing though. They say you need to take the mobo out of the 360 but i didnt have to do that to get the fan tunnel and fan out.
Took about 10 minutes to take to bits and could probably do it in 5 mins now.

Ive got the blue led one fitted in my 360 with a clear case. Its a pretty easy job really, about 10 mins. The hardest part is opening the case of the 360,the fan just slots into where the old one was.
The fan is quiter than the original and moves more air,it also looks nice all lit up blue:thumbsup:

Sounds tempting. The fans on the 360 are noisey but I'd be more interested in reducing the noise from the 360 DVD Rom.

I've just fitted this fan to my xbox. Which was easy to do.

Before I started I took a reading of the old fan using a SPL meter from about 1 foot from the front. I got a reading of 58db.

After fitting New Whisper Fan I still got a reading of 58db :(

I'm going to leave it a few days if it doesn't get quieter I'll refit the orginial fan.

My xbox is a Dec 05 model

Did you measure the sound while you were playing an xbox360 game, becuase 58db sounds about right for the amount of noise generated from the dvd drive. Try taking the same reading with the old fans and then the new ones, but dont put a disc in, just stay on the dashboard.

has anyone tried fitting a speed controller to the fans? Seeing as they move so much more air than the originals, why not slow em down a touch, should reduce the noise from the fans considerably....?

This might be worth reading then

    http://www.engadget.com/2006/12/06/xbox-360-quieting-mod/

I am quite tempted, but its only 3db... I would have liked them to post sound clips so you can appreciate the difference before undertaking it.

I'm used to sit 3m's from my xbox and never noticed its noise, now ive moved it up to my room its less than a meter away its quite noisey, i think i'll be changing the fan asap - i dont think im in warranty as i won the console lol

Just had a look at that ebay link for the crystal case, i'd have to make the power button LED blue aswell, the green just clashes :)

I fitted one ages ago,my 360 very rarely freezes now. Before i installed the talismoon fans i had far more problems.

I recommend looking on the web for a decent guide to removing the case and take your time! It is a simple job but there is one fiddly bit on the rear :rotfl: Sounds dirty

Anyway i can 100% recommend these fans, the noise decreases quite a bit,but more importantly, you can feel the difference if you put your hand to the back of the case, the air is HOT and you know the airflow is doing its job

I installed mine before my warranty ran out so i was a little nervous, but i am so glad i did it! Go for it mate :smashin:

Does anyone have a sound recording of the Talismoon fans working? I want to compare them to the "wiiirr" sound the DC Brushless fans make.

I bought a Talismoon LED about 14 months ago for my old xbox just before it died so never got to install it.
Bought a new xbox a few weeks later and have been waitng for the warrenty to expire.
The warrenty is up now and went to install it today only to find Microsoft have changed the socket from a 4 pin to 3 pin.

A quick grainy pic i took last night with my iPhone:

It still runs quite warm when playing a game from the disc (which is rare) so i have to press the switch for the fans to run at a faster rate.

Playing from the drive, it's much quieter and cooler IMO.

Do you have to do much extra work to get the fans running at the faster 12v rate (ie soldering cables etc)?

I quite fancy some of these fans as my 3 year warranty runs out soon.

I bought whispermax fans. They come with a pre-installed switch that sticks to the inside of the metal casing in front of the centre of one of the fans, if that makes sense?

Basically, where there are holes in the plastic casing at the back, in front of the fans, you'll have a push button switch that changes it from normal to fast. I only use it when running a game from disk, which isn't often!

Sweet, I thought to get the faster fan speeds I'd have to solder a wire onto the mobo somewhere to draw extra power. I'll definitely get some if that isn't the case!
