I have just bought one of these. It has been discussed on the forums in various threads. I will post opinions when I recieve it. I will also include whether or not it got through customs ;)

It seems that at least another 2 UK buyers have also bought one of these!

I'll be very, very suprised if you get that thru customs without any charges.

Even if marked as a gift the maximum amount AFAIA is £36 so $300 should mean import duty being applied (IIRC it's 14% for T.Vs ?? maybe more)

How does the warranty work - UK support? or would it have to go back

Good luck with it anyway, you got some guts ordering one

If there is any problems with the TV then its shipped back to Taiwan using the sellers DHL account, so no problems on that one!

Will wait to see about the Customs

I (and another person) emailed people who had bought this unit, and this is some of the things they had to say:

I am very pleased with my purchase. I did a lot of research in flat panel technology. I chose the LCD over projection and plasma. I have auditioned many manufacturers and or brand names. Taiyi is a major manufacturer for several brand names. If you like LCD, you will like Taiyi. Just remember you will need to fine tune the color to your preference as with any other new TV you get.

LCDs tend to be less black than plasmas. Also they tend to generate a bit more red hue. A few tweaks on your video adjustments for color, contrast & brightness, you should arrive at a pleasing display. At least that's what I did! WOW!!! The speakers generate clean & clear audio. The color of the unit is silver. I bought the 32 inch model for the master bedroom.

Right now I am pleased with LCD and very pleased with the 32" Taiyi. The price was just right!

NOTE: The unit will arrive in its native language format. You will need to change it from the Asian text to English or whatever. You will have to refer to your owners manual to count down the number of printed lines on your menu to arrive at the language setting on the TV. That was the only thing that took me a while to figure out (5 minutes).

    And...

    hello,
yes, i was referring to picture quality when i
compared it to a sharp. my brother-in-law has a sharp
and i couldn't tell the difference. in fact, i like
the 8ms response time because fast action was
flawless. So far, i'm very happy with the tv. good deal and quality is
    great. hope this helps.

So all seems to be good!
