It does seem pretty steep, but then again it will make your AV32R pretty much totally up to date.

Height channel sounds pretty interesting, although I'd be dubious about enabling it for any EX/ES material as they suggest. And just how many times can you watch We Were Soldiers? (The reviews were so bad I didnt even see it once! :) )

The TMREQ does sound pretty amazing, but without hearing its effect, it's hard to say if it lives up to its promise.

Dolby Headphone without a headphone socket, whats that about?!

And DTS 96/24 would be great (if dvds were actually authored with it).

That said I'm currently waiting for my Denon A1SE to go away and be upgraded to A1SR spec and thats £600 for essentially THX Ultra2, DPL2, DTS 96/24, Dolby Headphone, and new dual processors. The Tag upgrade offers more relatively so I guess the choice comes down to how much pain and suffering you are willing to inflict on your bank account!

    Sweetmate,

I did have a 1SE and did have that upgraded to Ultra 2.

Moving to a Pre/pro is where I am now, but I can not justify the £3k+ upgraqding to a AV192r.

Eitherway, you will enjoy the Denon upgrade.

Just need to decide do I keep upgrading, only said this morning to the wife, no that's awesome my HC room and with Roland working his magic next week, hopefully the picture will jump out at me. That's it for now.

Still, 192 owners have said there is a big leap from the 32r-192.

Anyone that has a av192r fancy an A/B test?

Yup, I guess if you already have the AV32Rbp-192 THX Surround EX 7.1, then £1300 can probably be better spent elsewhere, and the Tag as it is now will still sound damn good.

Are Tag stopping the support for the AV32 since the new one's come out?

Maybe I should send a email to your wife "My Tag processor has not been repaired, I've just bought the new one!- Nathan" :D

I dont think £1300 for that specification is terrible.

    That's quite a hefty add-on really isn't it.

Give you big power & performance.

How much is the AV32R 192 Dual Processor version new?

[edit] I'm sure the Tag processors are excellent units. But my Denon AVD-2000 cost me £110. Are the Tags worth the extra £3000+? I mean how/can it sound 30x better?

About £4K. I think £1300 is perfectly reasonable. You'll have a good proportion of an AV192R once the upgrade's complete and it'll make the upgrade to the AV192R easier to bear.

I think the dual processor is a fantastic product for Tag owners on the upgrade path. Where else can you buy a processor for £2500 and upgrade it bit by bit to a processor "worth" £10K? Theta Digital offers upgradable DACs but look at the huge variety of Tag upgrades. One of the principal reasons for me "going Tag" was the way I could build my dream system as money allowed.

The overhead for upgrading is about 20%. The overhead for selling and buying new is waaaay over that.

Value for money, like beauty, is in the eye of the beholder.

I think the upgrade price is ok if the features really deliver.

    A new dual proc AV32R is 3995
Upgrading a old (but full spec AV32R) is between 1300 and 1495 - depending on a few of the smaller options you already have. So you are basically paying a few hundred quid for the process of being upgraded, which is fair really.

The single proc AV32R will receive one more software upgrade (3.8) and that will be it from what i understand. Not sure if they will still do hardware upgrades like 7.1 and 192dacs.. most likely they will though

Theta offers a pretty broad range of upgrades. For a start video switching is an upgrade for a Theta pre/pro:D

As I said earlier, I was impressed with the upgrade that Denon did with the 1se, but Tag have a few more.

The fact that you can buy a original 32r with the old DAC and turn this into what must be one of the top 5 processors out there is amazing.

All this can be done as funds allow and you can buy a new warranty, so peace of mind as well.

I bought a 1se and "lost" £1300 in just over 2 yrs. This is more painful, as in 2 years time, it maybe view as a AVC-1D is now. Or Denon may do another upgrade?

IMHO a situation that hopefully is avoided going the Tag route, so long as you upgrade, which most will.

Came clean with the wife and she was not against it:clap:

If you are brave enough and if said in the rightway, try this way I don't need to upgrade you.

    Ahh, let me think......................................

Got it, tell her that the military grade components in the Tag are being recalled by the governement in preperation for the Iraq issue and that it will be substituted for an alternative now with an alternative being made available later in the year.

This way you can upgrade twice !!!!!!

I guess its time to start looking at in-ceiling speakers.

Does anybody know if any more films will be mixed with "Sonic Whole Overhead Sound"?. Jeez that sounds ridiculous!

Can you imagine saying to a non-av person when they come round to watch a movie:

"Todays movie will be heard in Digital Theatre Systems Surround Sound - Extended Surround Discrete 6.1 with Todd-AO/Soundelux/Dolby Labs Sonic Whole Overhead Sound (so in a way thats 7.1) via a THX Ultra 2 sound system with TAG McLaren Room EQualiser adjustment applied,...any questions?"

Personally when a (non-AV) someone comes round to watch a DVD ... I tend to say "do you fancy watching Finding Forester or You've got mail ... and letting the sound impress them all by itself"

To answer my own question I've remembered that Attack of the Clones was mixed and encoded "with a height channel" so I'm assuming that its via the same method (pretty daft if it isnt). I guess those starship flyovers will really sound as they should now! If only there was a sound format which muted all the terrible dialogue....;)

Just a thought but won't this room re equ serve the same as the velo guys have just put in the 1812 and soon to be DD15 and DD18 ( updated HGS15 and HGS18)

If so this upgrade just got more attractive.

The velodyne eq-ing will eq the sub output to give you flat frequency response for your sub, the TMREQ wil actually eq all 6 or 7 channels across the whole frequency range to give you a perfect (in theory) response around your whole room. I really can't wait to hear it in action!

    Lowrider,

Is it likely that the 23r will get this? Suppose the 5.1 bypass could be used, that would be handy if you have a dvi capable source.

According to what i've read so far, this will involve a major overhall of the motherboard?

Still am sure TAG will support it via a 32r bp192-DS.

Am waiting to hear about the stand alone scaler.

I am not sure if they will do it, but I am quite happy with the sound of my system, the weak link is the discs, so DVD-A digital is the upgrade I really want...

Of course Arcam will have to do the same interface on the FMJ, otherwise it will have to be the DVD192... Or a Meridian combo...
