I have just bought the dvd T2 region 1.
i was looking for the THX test menu - where it enables you to setup your speaker etc correctly - but it doesnt appear to be on either disc. Can someone confirm where it should be.

    Thanks

Go into the setup part of the menu on the main disc (I think its called Sensory something....) and look for the THX logo on the side of the Terminator's head.

I also watched Gladiator (R1) in DTS - and sounded bloody excellent.

Has anyone got any other reviews on DVDs that really push your setup and make it work hard.
and before someone mentions matrix - i have already got this.

    Cheers

As a rule i always find any space or underwater sequences really create an atmospere, great bass sounds to test the sub. Also the cartoons (Toy Story,Bugs life,Tarzan)all have a great detailed sound.
    The Abyss
    Saving Private Ryan
    Apollo 13
    Jaws
    T2
    Unbreakable
any of these in dts,are a just a few good examples!

    sod the matrix......

for some low end rumble.....End of Days, near the beginning with engineers working in the street....

music quality...the end of Gladiator, where Russell Crowe dies

Aliens....where the remote ship crashes..what an explosion

motorbike chase in MI2.....superb use of surrounds..

    Thanks for that.
I've always struggled to hear any difference between DTS & DD but Im pretty sure I can notice on this.

DD Bass felt a little 'boomy' where as DTS base was more intense and direct.

For information I did this test on a Denon 3802, Tosh sd210 & Kef kht2001 5.1 speaker set.

    PS...

In future you might want to type in lower case.
Caps is regarded as SHOUTING and is frowned upon where not neccessary on most Forums/websites.

    Some good effects DVDs:

    The Long Kiss Goodnight (shootouts)
    Bad Boys (score, shootouts)
    Heat (bank robbery scene)
The 5th Element (the whole movie!)
    Das Boot (>200m)
Roy Orbison Black and White Night (music)

Else the ones which have been mentioned already: The Abyss, T2, The Matrix ...

U-571 (r1, DTS soundtrack) - one of the best dts soundtracks i've heard - standout moment is chapter 15 (i think) - the depth charge scene. i think it really scared the neighbours!

On the subject of T2..........Is there any difference between the R1 and R2 versions, especially in sound?

THe price is pretty much the same, so which one is the best to buy?

    Thanks for any replies.

    RDB :)

Buy the region 1, its a better disc, but only in terms of the 3 versions of the film on the same disc branching option. I haven't heard the R2 version, so not qualified to say, sorry.

The R2 has nicer packaging... a proper hinged metal tin... whereas the R1 has a sheet of bent metal. But it's the disc that counts :)

I prefer the reg 1 over the reg 2 the metal is thicker and it looks better ,the reg 2 looks like a tobbaco tin.only my opinion.
    cheers Dave.
