Now I like this. Ive hovered around its jewel case in countless bargain bins, picked it up and put it back down again.

Until a mate sent me one of them new fangled MP3 files of 'chopsuey'.

Its a blend of fast paced, hard edged rock, edgy guitars, stop start dynamics, heavy riffing and machine gun drumming all mixed with lyrics that speak of social injustice etc and are delivered in a similar style to Rage against the machine. Now, that would have made a good album, but, the thing that makes it better is the way they have included a russian/balkan overtone to the whole album, you can hear an electric balilika in there .

This is not a new album, its had dozens of rave reviews, most of which I chose to ignore, but in this case its justified. This album is probably just as important a RATMs debut.

If you like Early Metallica, Mars Volta, RATM, Audioslave, Killing Joke then this should appeal. Its probably not for fans of Norah Jones, but who knows.

    9/10

    Good album. :smashin:

I love the fact that SOAD could probably write a killer rock ballad "for the masses" if they wanted to, but they've haven't because it'd mean leaving out all the shouty bits. :D

Toxicity is the nuts! I love it's in-your-face attitude, but I think the best bits are the subtle mellow sections in the middle of songs. Aerials is class!

Toxicity is their best album, but the best songs are on their debut album.

I never understood why so many people rave about them though, they're OK and refreshing but hardly "band of the century" or anything like that.

I've seen them live twice as well and thought they were terrible though. Completely stale with no energy (plenty in the crowd though  BOUNCE!!

Check out 'Steal this album' for some great tunes. Innervision, chic 'n'stu, boom to name a few.

Rocking out to Knight Rider on I-E-A-I-A-I-O is a right touch:smoke:

I'm glad I AM young! LOL! Toxicity is a great band. It's also kool that the band members are totally insane Armenians. Chop Suey and Toxicity are the best songs. Although I do also like Speak English Or Die! No! How do you own the world!? How do you own disorder, disorder!? Wake up! Grab a brush and put on a little make-up! Best ever!

Cube, start a follow-up thread for your "suggest me rock songs" type threads of last month. It would be interesting to know what you thought of everyones opinions.

You'd like One Minute Silence, get "Buy Now... Saved Later"

Bought this album a while ago. Have to say, it's not too bad. I don't generally go for bands like System of a Down, but I thought there were a few good songs on the album. However, I don't think it's as good as Rage Against the Machine's debut. Not by a long way.

Strange, Amazon say that Mezmerize will be released on April 25, 2005 and Play say that it will be released on 16/05/2005

If you like RATM, check out Downset, far harder but a similar style, very good live too

SOAD are excellent, can't wait for the new album, plus I'll be seeing them at MEN in June, and maybe Download if I can persuade my friends to go!

Slightly off topic but I found it amusing watching NIN on cd:uk the other week, the audience didn't know what to do except clap along...quite amusing
